Marc was born in Flint on September 17, 1961, and lived in Flint his entire life, but spent much time over the last year at Cleveland Clinic and later, Grace Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. The family is grateful to all those institutions. Marc was an instrumental music teacher in the Flint Public Schools. He taught in several elementary and middle schools in Flint. He was also the Principal Timpanist of the Midland, Saginaw Bay and Pontiac Symphony Orchestras and a proud member of the Saginaw Eddy Band. He occasionally substituted with the Flint Symphony. He attended Interlochen and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camps in high school and was a member of the Flint Elementary and Junior Symphonies as well as the Michigan Youth Symphony and Michigan Youth Band.  He loved music and was dedicated to making music a part of children’s lives. In one of his last conversations, he remarked  that “Some adults don’t appreciate music and art, but sometimes the arts are the only thing kids relate to.” He was determined to keep the arts accessible to inner city public school students, and literally put his heart into it. He had a Bachelor’s in music, music education from Michigan State University and a Master’s in music, music education from Oakland University. He had graduate credits from U of M, did post-graduate work at Marygrove, and had begun work on a doctorate in music education at Boston University.

Surviving are sisters, Marja of Rockville, Maryland, Leah of New York City; as well as students, teachers, fellow musicians and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents, Robert and Darlene Maddrie.
