Joseph G. Steenland, Jr., age 75, of Roseville, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2010 in Mount Clemens. Mr. Steenland honorably served the community as a Roseville police officer for 33 years, achieving the rank of lieutenant; afterwards, he held the position of chief investigator for the Macomb Co. Prosecutor’s Office until he retired 13 years later. Mr. Steenland has been a member of the Roseville School Board for 34 years and has been the president since 1981. Joe further served the community as a member of the Roseville Scholarship Foundation, Friends of the Roseville Public Library, the Roseville Historical & Genealogical Society. He was also past president and a founding member of the Roseville Optimist Club. One of Joe’s proudest moments was having a school dedicated in his name in 2008, Joseph G. Steenland Elementary School, commonly known as “The Joe.” Mr. Steenland is survived by his children, Debra (Michael) Seabolt, Joseph (Tammy) Steenland, III, Mark (Jeanise) Steenland, Jon (Anna) Steenland, Richard (Catherine) Steenland, Michael (Karen) Steenland and Jennifer (Kevin) Miller; 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Kronner. Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife, Darlene. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Monday at Kaul Funeral Home, 27830 Gratiot Avenue, Roseville. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s name to the Steenland Elementary Fund or the Roseville Scholarship Foundation.
