KERN, Thelma 65 of Reese, died Wednesday evening, February 16, 2011 at Covenant HealthCare Cooper Campus in Saginaw. She was born April 8, 1945 in Southampton, England and was raised by her adoptive parents, George and Margaret E. Burwood. On July 2, 1966 she was married to Allan Kern in Reese. He survived her. Thelma attended the Peace Lutheran Church in Saginaw and was member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese where she was an active member of the Mary Martha Guild. Her most important activity was being Nana to her three grandsons. She volunteered countless hours over the past twenty years at Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw and enjoyed gardening. Surviving besides her husband Allan are her two sons and their spouses, Colin and Carol Kern of Saginaw and Justin and Leslie Kern of Birch Run; her three grandsons, Lucas, Lance and Ian Kern, her aunt, Mary Roberts and her husband Tony and her cousins, Jeremy Roberts and his wife Hazel and Dorcas Roberts, all of England.

~Funeral~ Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2011 from the Peace Lutheran Church, 3427 Adams in Saginaw. Rev. Paul Hinz will officiate with graveside committal services to take place at 2:30 p.m. in the Denmark Township Cemetery in Reese.
~Visitation~ Thelma’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 9940 Saginaw St. in Reese on Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services. ~Memorials~ Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Covenant HealthCare Auxiliary, Peace Lutheran School in Saginaw, St. Elizabeth Catholic School in Reese or the donor’s favorite charity.
