POST, Roy Erick 89 of Midland, passed away February 4, 2011 surrounded by his family. He was born November 28, 1921 in St. Cloud, MN, son of Erick and Jarda (Larson) Post. Roy grew up in Idaho, Montana, and Minnesota before serving in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He returned to Minnesota where he obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and married Betty Marie Golden in Hopkins on March 11, 1950. He and Betty were happily married until her death on July 10, 2004.
For Roy and Betty, dancing was a way of life. He was employed as a chemical engineer by Mallinckrodt Chemical Co. in St. Louis, MO from 1950 to 1952. He left there to work for the Foxboro Co., first in Columbus, OH, then St. Louis and finally, Midland where he retired in 1987. He was a member of American Legion Post 165 and the Midland Elks 1610. He is survived by his children: Mark (Lynn) Post of Wheaton IL; Carla (Richard) Eaton of New Orleans LA; and Jim (Kim) Post of Plymouth MN; grandchildren Susie (Robert) Battey, Janet Post, and Kristin Post; great grandchildren Maria, Charlie, and Gemma Battey; his brother Ralph (Mary) Post of Hopkins MN; sister Ruth (Ole) Orrestad of Spokane WA, sisters-in-law June (Karl) Dosen of Minneapolis MN, and Mary Post of St. John’s, NL, wife of his late brother Robert “Bob” Post.
A memorial service for Roy will take place at 2:30 PM on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler Street in Midland, followed by a wake at the American Legion Post 165 from about 3:00 to 6:00 PM. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a donation in honor of Roy to the charity of their choice.
