ROBERTS, Harold M. – Of Grand Blanc, age 91, died Friday, February 18, 2011 at Genesys Hospice Care Center in Goodrich. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor G. Patrick England officiating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery with a military service under the auspices of VFW Post #822 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Salvation Army or North End Soup Kitchen. Visitation 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and 12p.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Mr. Roberts was born in Maple Ridge, Michigan on February 23, 1919, the son of Benjamin and Ethel (Manning) Roberts and was a resident of Grand Blanc since 1951.
He married Helen Kramer on December 2, 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and survived the sinking of two ships, including the USS Yorktown. He was a lifetime member of Grand Blanc American Legion Post. Mr. Roberts was employed by Consumers Power Company for 32 years, retiring in 1976. Surviving are wife, Helen; six children, David and wife Wanda, Richard and wife Patti, Ronald and wife Sharon, Mary Roberts and husband Ronald McCoy, Janice Roberts, Brian and wife Janice; seven grandchildren, Brent, Jeremey, Lindsey and Max Roberts, Jason and Bris Roberts, Tracie and Fernando Fernandez, Brandi and Chris Hall and four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Ethel; brothers, Dean and Bob Roberts.
