
GREGUS, William ‘Bill’ R., Sr. – of Davison, age 86, passed away February 24, 2011 at Brian’s House Hospice. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 N. Dayton St., Davison; Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. Military Honors will follow the Mass under the auspices of the VFW Post #4087. The family will receive visitors from 12-3 and 5-8 PM Tuesday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, where a Scripture Service will be held at 7 PM. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the Mass on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brian’s House Hospice or a charity of one’s choice.
Bill was born in New Lothrop, MI on January 27, 1925, son of the late Andrew and Anne (Cifersky) Gregus. He graduated from Flint Northern High School, Class of 1943. Bill married Vera Weishuhn at Sacred Heart Church in Flint, MI on November 10, 1951. He served his country with the U.S. Army duringWWII with the 9th Armored Division as a messenger who carried papers declaring to all that the war had ended. Bill studied at North Dakota University and GMI. Bill was a Surveyor for the US Army Corps of Engineers from 1951-1954. He installed the power grid in Caro for Mid-Michigan, which he always said was his legacy. Bill was a machine Repairman for General Motors for 42 years at Buick Plant #10. He was a member of the VFW Post #4087, Davison Country Club 1964 – 2009 and Sugarbush Golf Club. Bill had a passion for golf and enjoyed traveling with his son, John, following his golf career. He also enjoyed fishing, bowling, bingo and casinos.
Bill is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Vera Gregus; children, William R. (Kim) Gregus, Jr., Gail Harman, John (Julie) Gregus; grandchildren, Chad, Jenny, Melissa and Jonathon; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Grace Steward, Lucille (Jack) Heydon; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kristen; 2 brothers and 4 sisters.
