
GIBBS, Cyrus H. “Homer” – Of Rogers, Arkansas, age 87, died Saturday, March 12, 2011 in Springdale, Arkansas. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11a.m. Friday, March 18, 2011 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton, MI 48529, Father Steve Anderson officiating. Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation 1-3 p.m. and 5-8p.m. Thursday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Scripture Service will be held at 7p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Gibbs will be at the church 10:30 a.m. Friday until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
Homer was born in Dover, Tennessee on June 28, 1923. He married Blanche Long on June 7, 1943 in Flint. Homer served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II, serving in Guadalcanal. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, U.T.C., VFW, and American Legion, Post #100. He was employed by Oven Fresh Bakery, as a driver-salesman, for over 30 years, retiring in 1979. Homer resided in Flint for most of his life. He moved to Rogers, Arkansas in 1997, where he was active part of the Innisfree Senior Living Community.

Surviving are two daughters, Juanita Berryman of Flint, Janice and husband Tim Fowler of Jackson, Michigan; three grandchildren, Jill and husband Mark Gould, Michael and wife Laurie Gibbs and Craig Berryman; 2 great-grandchildren, Douglas and Timothy; Sister-in-law, Beverly and husband, Donald Morin of Gaines, MI; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche, on May 30, 2003, daughter, Carol, brothers, Cecil, Gilbert and Elmore and sister, Betty.
