MUDGE, Frederick G. – Of Flint, age 85, passed away Monday, May 10, 2010 at Genesys Regional Medical Center with family at his bedside.
Funeral service will be held 1p.m. Friday, May 14, 2010 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Jim Garfield Sr. officiating. Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation 2-8p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Fred was born in Flint on July 27, 1924, son of Frederick and Lily Mudge. At a young age he moved with his parents to Exeter, England for a brief stay before returning to Flint where he lived out the rest of his days. He joined the US Marine Corps and served during World War II. Fred then met the love of his life, Florence Ann Eckert and they married June 18, 1949. They had five children, Robert (Nancy) Mudge, Dianna Dyer, Sharon Gillmore, Frederick Mudge, Jr. and Mary Ann Mudge. Fred retired 30 years ago as a foreman supervisor at Fisher Body #1. He then went on to work as a bookkeeper for his good friend, Mike Schwartz, at Nathan J’s for many years. He leaves behind two beloved sisters, Elsie (Jim) Elliot of Sun City, FL, Pat (Stan) Gooch of Grand Blanc, MI; sister-in-law, Jean Eckert, his five children, 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife “Flossie”.
