KERN, Edna 93, of Reese, died early Saturday morning, October 9, 2010 at her home. She was born July 3, 1917 in Denmark Township, Tuscola County, daughter of the late Michael and Nora (Hecht) Bierlein. On August 15, 1937, she was married to Erhardt G. Kern in Richville. He predeceased her February 28, 1992. Edna farmed with her husband all of her life and was a bus driver with Reese Public Schools for over thirty-years. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese and enjoyed gardening, mowing her lawn, baking and supporting the Reese Rockets in all their sporting events.
Surviving are her son and daughter, Robert Kern of Reese and Jean Trautner and her husband Al of East Tawas;
Her grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff and Dana Reif, Jerel Reif, Janis and Doug Squanda, Sherry and Chris Conachan, Matt and Tiffany Kern, Jill and Bob Loftus and Joel A. and Lisa Trautner, fifteen great –grandchildren, and her sisters, Irene Bierlein and Pauline Scherzer, both of Richville. In addition to her parents and husband, Edna was predeceased by her brothers and sisters- in-law, Wallace “Wally” and Marge Bierlein, Hilda and Emery Miller, Albert Scherzer and Edward Bierlein, her daughter-in-law Joan Kern, and her son-in-law, Jim Reif.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2010 from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese. Rev. Robert H. Bennett and Vicar John Henry will both officiate with committal services to follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Oakwood Memorial Mausoleum in Saginaw. Edna’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral home, 9940 Saginaw St. in Reese on Monday from 2-8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Trinity Lutheran Church Altar Guild, Reese High School Athletic Boosters or Reese Fire Rescue.
