SVINARICH, Catherine ‘Kay’ – of Flint, age 83, passed away September 20, 2010 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 am Friday, September 24, 2010 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 N. Dayton St., Davison; Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. Entombment will follow in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 pm Wednesday and Thursday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. On Friday, there will be visitation at the church for one hour prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or for Masses.

Kay was born in Windsor Heights, West Virginia, one of the ten children of Vid and Anna (Mucha) Svinarich. Her dad was a coal miner until an accident. At that time, Kay had to quit school and work to help her family. At the age of 16, she worked nine hours a day, six days a week for a wage of $10.00. Her mother did ironing for others. Kay moved to Michigan in 1944 where she worked as an automatic Host, which is a person who played piped music from a switchboard to other bars. She also worked at Smith Bridgeman’s and was at AC for over 40 years. A young Kay traveled a lot to various places such as Spain, Greece, Egypt, Hawaii, Nevada and Europe. It could not be said that she let grass grow under her feet! When she bought her home, Kay traveled less. She went back to school and graduated in 1967. Kay was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church where she served the parish in many capacities. She later attended Holy Rosary. In her spare time, Kay loved to play Bingo and listen to Daniel O’Donnell, the Irish singer, whom she saw perform live in New York. She also enjoyed going to the casinos with friends.

Kay is survived by her siblings, Agnes Ovadek, Ann Heidenreich, John (Agnes) Svinarich, Vid (Millie) Svinarich and Robert (Virginia) Svinarich; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by siblings, Frank and Tom Svinarich and Stella Lintz. Kay will be missed by her loving, caring friends, family, neighbors and special ‘brother’, Terry Warren and family.

SMITH, Barbara J.- of Davison, age 79, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Genesys Health Park. A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Pastor Todd Biermann officiating. Burial will be in Davison Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 11 am-2 pm and 5-8 pm and on Thursday from 1 pm until the time of service.

Barbara was born in Flint, MI on July 1, 1931, daughter of the late George and Josephine (Stiff) Ross. She married Robert Smith in 1950 in Flint, MI.
Barbara received her Bachelors Degree from University of Michigan and her Masters Degree from Oakland University. She was a teacher with Kearsley Schools and a master quilter.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Robert; son, Gerald Smith of East Lansing; daughter, Patty (Kevin) Hough of Grand Blanc; grandchildren, Michael Hough, Jackson Smith, Shelby Smith, Brian Smith; sister-in-law, Helen Smith and many friends in Michigan and Pleasant Lake, Bradenton, Florida. She was preceded in death by son, George Smith; grandson, Patrick Hough and niece, Beverly Dues.

MALECKI, John S. Jr. – of Birch Run, age 84, died Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11AM Friday, September 24, 2010 at Assumption BVM Catholic Church, 7877 Bell Road, Bridgeport. Rev. Fr. John Sarge presiding. Military honors will be conducted under the direction of the Birch Run VFW Post # 7542. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Bridgeport. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 4-8PM with a 7PM Rosary. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the church or the charity of ones choice.
John was born March 24, 1926 in Carrollton, Michigan to the late John Stephen Malecki Sr. and Martha Kenoski. His mother preceded him in death in 1928 and John was raised in Fosters, Michigan by his grandparents: Stephen and Catherine (Virginski) Klenoski. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the LST 283. He served as a baker, helmsman and a 20mm gunner. After the war, he served in the Army Reserves as a Staff Sergeant. John married Patricia Ann Reilly on February 8, 1947 in Saginaw, Michigan. He retired in 1978 from Saginaw Steering Gear with 32 years seniority and was a farmer most of his life. John was a charter member of NCHA/FCRV Polish Pine Campers Chapter 292. He belonged to Assumption BVM Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
John is survived by: wife, Pat; sons, Ronald (Barbara) Malecki of Wright, Minnesota, John “Skip” (Hope) Malecki of Birch Run, Michael (Mary Ann) Malecki of Birch Run; grandchildren, Jennie (Ed) Tiessen, Tracy (Randy) Loomis, Jeremy Malecki, Ronald (Chrissy) Malecki II, Regina (Terry) Jentzen, John P. Malecki II, Patricia R. Malecki, Timothy Malecki, Matthew Malecki; great-grandchildren, Bradley Loomis, Tyler Tiessen, Kaitlyn Tiessen, Blake Malecki, Jade Malecki, Lillie Malecki, Alexa Jentzen, Ethan Lombard; sister, Arletta Malott. Mr. Hosler was born in Owosso, Michigan on June 1, 1928 and was a resident of the Flint area most of his life. On June 28, 1975 he married Lorelei and had been married 35 years. He was a member of Lindenwood Church of the Nazarene. Mr. Hosler was employed by General Motors at Buick Motor Division, retiring on August 1, 1988. Surviving are wife, Lorelei; children, Diane Lackota, Debra Baum, Charles Jr., David, Christina and husband Anthony Barriere; step-sons, Daniel D. and wife Vicki Bidwell, Warren M. and wife Eva Bidwell; sister, Rosemary Edwards; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

HICKMAN, Nancy M. – Of Burton, age 64, died Sunday, September 19, 2010 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2010 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Larry Rednower officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Visitation 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Nancy was born in Flint, Michigan on January 22, 1946, the daughter of Edwin and Ola Gulley. She loved spending time with her kids and her grandchildren. Mrs. Hickman retired from GM. Surviving are children, Jerry Hickman and Larry Hickman; granddaughter, Isabel Hickman; grandson, Blake Hickman; mother, Ola Gulley; sister, Beverly Warren; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by father, Edwin Gulley and sister, Donna Lyles.

COLVIN, Evelyn May -age 88, of Holly formally of Fenton, passed away Monday, September 20, 2010 at Genesys Health Park. Services will be held at a later date. Those desiring may make contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association. Evelyn was born May 31, 1922 in Flint, the daughter of Sheldon and Hattie (Roberts) Brabeau. She was a 1940 graduate of Flint Central High School. She married Francis C. Colvin November 25, 1945 in Flint and he preceded her in death July 9, 2003. Evelyn had worked for AC Spark Plug for five years then retired in 1975 from Mott Community College where she worked in the Registrar`s Office for 15 years. She was a member of Torrey Road Baptist Church. She had resided in Holly since 2004 coming from Fenton. Surviving are two daughters, Harriet and husband Carl Gano of Sunset Beach, NC and Suzanne and husband Roger Tripp of Holly; three grandsons Scott and wife Elona Gano of Lake Orion, Eric and wife Felicia Gano of Flushing, Brian Gano of Louisburg, NC; great granddaughter, Lorelei Gano; niece, Eleanor July; two great nephews, Tony and wife Jori July and Christopher July; great great niece Elizabeth July. William was born December 31, 1962 in Pontiac, the son of Calvin C. and Eleanor C. (Dinser) Campbell. He was a 1981 graduate of Linden High School. He had worked for Allied Systems in Flint as a Master Diesel Mechanic. William had resided in Argentine for the past 14 years coming from Fenton and Clarkston. He was an avid car enthusiast, hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. HATTON, Linda Mae 70, of Midland, formerly of Escondido, California, died Wednesday evening, September 22, 2010 at MidMichigan Medical Center. The former Linda Mae O’Donnell was born July 11, 1940 in Lockport, N.Y. daughter of the late Thomas and Olive (Zigmond) O’Donnell. She was a former resident for many years in the San Diego area and was employed as a nurse for over twenty-three years before moving back to Midland in 2007 to be with her daughter. She enjoyed playing bingo.

Surviving are her children, Cynthia Clark of Midland; and Darrell Thomas Hatton Jr. of Texas; grandchildren, Michael Clark and Heather Clark, both of San Diego, CA, and her great-grandchildren, Corbin Clark, Kevin Barry, Amy Barry and Monica Stanfill. In addition to her parents Linda was predeceased by her brother James O’Donnell.

Graveside Committal Services will take place at 3 p.m. Monday, September 27, 2010 in the Poseyville Cemetery. Rev. David Pylie will officiate.

NEVEAU, Mary V., 90, of Reese, died early Wednesday morning, September 22, 2010 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. She was born on January 11, 1920 in Gilford Township, daughter of the late Jess and Esther (Acker) Ellison. Mary married Leonard “Pete” Neveau on November 28, 1936 in Reese. He predeceased her on July 30, 1981. She was employed and retired from the St. Elizabeth Catholic School hot lunch program. Mary was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Reese and had enjoyed canning, baking and spending time with her family. Surviving is one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and James Schwartz of Reese; 8 grandchildren, Tammy, Dawn, Jimmy, Kandi, Brenda, Leslie, Bethany and Stephanie; 17 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Jeannie Neveau of Reese and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, 2 sons, Francis “Buck” Neveau, Gerald “Jerry” Neveau, 1 grandson, Danny Neveau; 3 brothers Floyd, Lloyd and Matthew Ellison; 5 sisters, Alvera Claus, Clara Myers, Ruby Vaillancourt, Louina Zissler and Mabel Hogan all predeceased her.
~FUNERAL~
The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 25, 2010 from St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Father William Gruden will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.
~VISITATION~
Mary’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 9940 Saginaw Street, Reese on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the liturgy.
