MATTHEWS, Mr. Melvin C. of the Millington & North Lake area’s passed from our world into God’s Kingdom early Sunday Sept.-19-2010 while at the Genesys Health Park Medical Center in Grand Blanc, Michigan, Melvin was 81.

Melvin C. Matthews was the son of the late Cecil & Doris (Skeels) Matthews and was born in Clare County Michigan on May 9, 1929. Melvin served our country during Korean War in the US-Army. After returning home from the service Melvin went to work for the Flint Truck & Bus Plant of General Motors where he retired after 30 years of employment. On April 30th 1955 Melvin married his wife of 55 years Miss Margaret Sherman. Melvin along with Margaret raised three children; Melvin loved the out of doors. He loved hunting, fishing, water skiing, bowling and most of all spending time with family and friends. Melvin and Margaret wintered in North Port Florida where they were members of Hope Lutheran Church. Melvin leaves to cherish his memory; Wife Margaret, two daughters and sons in-law; Gail & Steve Holmes, Marcia & Rick Petrucciello, a son and daughter in-law; Wayne & Lori Matthews, grandchildren; Nick & Dianne Holmes, Heather & Sherri Holmes, Steve Jr, & Shelly Holmes, Christopher Matthews, and Shannon Matthews, great-grandchildren; Dylan, Bret, Reese, and Seth Holmes. Four step great-grandchildren Michael, Starr, Aja, and Alec, and one step great grandson Patrick. Three sisters and a brother in-law; Ethel Sharp, Thelma Berridge , Shirley & Jim Tombs, as well as several nieces, nephews, other extended family, and friends. Besides his parents Melvin is preceded in death by a twin brother Delvin, also brothers, Leland & Fred Matthews, a half brother Leonard Matthews, and a half sister Iris Matthews.

Friends may call at the Hanlin Funeral Home from 1:00 Pm until 8:oo pm on Friday and also on Saturday from 12:30 pm until just prior to the services begin. Funeral services will be on Saturday Sept. 25, 2010 at 3:00 pm at the Hanlin Funeral Home with the burial to follow at the Millington Twp. Cemetery. Pastor James Bruner will deliver the funeral message and the closing prayers at the cemetery. Services will be concluded with full Military Honors conducted by the Conrad-Wager & Keene American Legion Post 164 of Millington.
