SOHMER, Darwin K. – of Davison, age 87, passed away April 6, 2010 at Brian’s House Hospice, Davison. A private memorial service will be held on a later date at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brian’s House or Disabled American Veterans.

Darwin was raised in Otter Lake, MI on March 15, 1923, son of the late George and Edith (Johnson) Sohmer. Darwin married Rose French on October 22, 1949. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Marines during WWII. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Darwin retired in 1980 from GM Engineering Department. He was a member of the DAV and Davison Senior Center. Darwin was past Commander of the Otter Lake American Legion. He was an avid Pool player. Darwin loved to go hunting and fishing and, playing cards.
Darwin is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Rose; children, Dianne (Phil) Leonard, Patricia Byers, Bill (Cindy) Sohmer and Jean (Larry) Cheney; grandchildren, Tim Leonard, Shannon (Erik) Alholinna, Mandy Tidwell, David Sohmer, Kristy (Kelly) Shoen, Nick (Mallory) Sohmer, Andrea and Patrick Fairchild; including eight great-grandchildren.

KETTLER, Mary Anne Davison – 77

KETTLER, Mary Anne Davison, age 77, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2010 at home. Mary Anne was born in Flint, daughter of Matthew B. Davison II and Margaret Cumings Davison. Mary Anne attended Kemper Hall, Kenosha, WI and Briarcliffe, Long Island, NY and was a graduate of the University of Michigan. She was active in a number of community organizations including Cedar Street Children’s Center, Junior League of Flint, McLaren General Hospital, Applewood Advisory Board, Twentieth Century Club, Genesee County Historical Society, Flint Institute of Music and Flint Institute of Arts.

She was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and longtime member of the Altar Guild. She was also a member of Wabaningo Church in Whitehall, MI and the Flint Golf Club and White Lake Golf Club. Mary Anne was very proud of the Davison and Cumings family history and the role they played in the business and cultural worlds of Genesee County. She loved to travel and spend time with family and friends at White Lake.

Mary Anne is survived by her husband James R.; 4 children, James (Karen) Johnson, Earl (Michelle) Johnson, Donald (Julia) Johnson III, and Scott (Sandra) Johnson; grandchildren Lindsey, James Jr., Derek, Brittany, Caitlin, Donald IV, Alex, Campbell, Jacob, and Olivia Johnson; brothers, Matthew Davison III and William Davison, and her husband’s children; Brian, Susan and Melissa Kettler. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers James and Charles, and husband Clifford J. Millhouse. Funeral Services will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Friday at 11:00 A.M., Father Marty Fields officiating. The family will meet with friends at 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. There will be a gathering at The Flint Golf Club after interment at Glenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or Flint Institute of Music. HAERING, Rev. Emil E. – Age 84, of Burton, died Monday, April 5, 2010 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, April 9, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church, 746 S. Saginaw St., Flint. Dr. John Musgrave will officiate. Interment will follow in Flint Memorial Park. Those desiring may make contributions to The Music Fund at First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 6-8 PM Thursday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Emil was born April 27, 1925 in Evansville, IN, the son of Emil E. and Martha (Rhodes) Haering.

He was a graduate of Bosse High School and Asbury College, where he set many track records. He was married to Betty J. Kuhns on December 10, 1948. He later went on to earn his Master of Divinity from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Rev. Haering was a United Methodist Minister for over 40 years. His love of music led him to sing and direct choirs all of his life. He also loved kids and directed many childrens church musicals. Rev. Haering had an undeniable love of God and his family. He also enjoyed traveling, taking care of his yard and helping others.

Surviving are: wife, Betty; children, Ken (Jenny) Haering, Barb Melone, Linda Haering, Richard Haering; grandchildren, Richard and Andrew Melone, Kristen Haering, Bradley, Jackie and William; great-granddaughter, Adrienne Melone; sister, Caryl Reynolds; brother, Paul (Ruth) Haering. GARRETT, Gary D. Dr. D.O., of Clio, age 73, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Avalon Hospice in Flint. Funeral services will be held 1PM Monday, April 12, 2010 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Interment to follow in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Dr. Gary Garrett was born February 12, 1937 in Lansing, Michigan to the late Ray and Fay (Hawley) Garrett. He has been a resident of Clio for the past 25 years. Dr. Garrett attended Hillsdale College and obtained his Medical Degree from Des Moines, Iowa. Dr. Garrett practiced medicine in the Clio Community for 25 years.

WILSON, Allen J (Al) – 59

WILSON, Allen J. (Al) of Vassar MI age 59 was called home to be with the Lord after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Born on Oct. 6, 1950 in Warren MI, and was the son of James & Deloris (Shaver) Wilson, and has been a Vassar/Millington area residence most of his life. Al joined the US Army in 1968 and served 12 years. On September 27, 1971 he married his wife of 38 years Miss Shirley Doyle. Al loved his motorcycle and love to ride. He also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, camping, but most of all he cherished his time with his wife and family. Al was diagnosed with cancer in 2000. He fought the good fight and gave his family and additional 10 precious and wonderful years.

Allen leaves to cherish his memory, wife Shirley, sons and daughters in-law Allen & Melissa Wilson of Claire, Robert Wilson of Kansas, Michael & Melissa Wilson of Vassar/Millington. Eight grandchildren, Jerry Donley, Stefiane Wilson, Autum Carbeno, Jesse Crane, Nolan Wilson, Christopher Wilson, Danyell Wilson, and Kora Wilson. He leaves also his siblings and their spouses, Cathy & Ricky Allen of IL, Mary Hatfield of Grayling, Edwin & Geri Wilson Of NC., Robert & Rose Wilson, Clyde & Debra Wilson, and Gene & Nancy Wilson all of Vassar. Al leaves also his extended family, Uncle Bert Reed of Houghton Lake, mother in-law Mrs. Rosemary Doyle of Vassar/Millington areas, Alan & Leanne Doyle, of Gaylord, Steve Doyle of Vassar, Crystal & Jack Edwards of Vassar/Millington areas, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, special girl friends, friends, and many other special people in his life. He leaves behind many special sons and daughters that in his heart he adopted along the way. Al is preceded in death by his parents, Step father Jerry Emery, sister Leora Wilson, father in-law Robert Doyle, favorite aunt Janet Norman, and a brother in-law Hazen Hatfield.
The Wilson family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses that have seen them through this journey, thanks to the wonderful staff of the Lutheran Home Care Hospice, to Crystal and to all the family that has been there to help and whom gave their love and time. Thanks to the so many people that have been here with us through this all and to Hanlin Funeral Home for helping us and guiding us through this time and assisting us with the planning of Al’s services. VON MACH, Edward Richard – Age 87, of Fenton, died Monday, April 5, 2010 at his residence. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 12:00 PM Thursday, April 8, 2010 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with Fr. David Harvey celebrating. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton Wednesday from 4-9 PM and Thursday at the church from 11:30 until time of Mass. Edward was born May 5, 1922 in Detroit, the son of Maxmillian Edward and Mary Margaret (O’Leary) Von Mach. He had resided in the Fenton area since 1975. He married Sarah Good October 10, 1953 in Detroit. Edward was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Fenton K of C Council #7418. He also was an avid Tennis player, golfer, boater and fisherman. ST. ONGE, Lawrence Michael, age 70 of Perry, formerly of Burton, MI passed away Monday April 5, 2010 at Hospice of Lansing. Mr. St.Onge was born in Detroit, MI on October 11, 1939, the son of Fernando & Gabrielle (Blais) St. Onge. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church and loved to play bingo. Lawrence was a tool & die maker for Fisher Body of Flint.

He is survived by his 4 children: Lawrence M.(Kim) St. Onge, II, David St.Onge & Renne’ Brown of Ovid, Gregory St.Onge of FL, and Kim St.Onge & David Enslin of East Lansing. 8 grandchildren & 2 great grandchildren, sisters Vivian (Max) Polzin of Perry, Phyllis (Bob) Chunn of Flushing, brothers James (Janice) St.Onge of Alanson, MI and Roger (Deborah) St.Onge of Cheboygan. He was predeceased by his sister Yvonne Gildner, brothers Francis, Ronald, Edmund and his parents.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday April 9, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Morrice, the Rev. Fr. John Bosco will officiate with burial to follow at Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Watkins Brothers Funeral Home in Perry on Thursday 6-8 PM, a Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM.

MEAD, Gary Jean – 52

MEAD, Gary James Mead, born april 3, 1958 went to be with his Lord the morning of April 6, 2010 at 52 years of age after a brave two year battle with cancer. Gary is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of twenty-six years Anne Mead, by his mother, Charlotte Howard, his older brother Robert (Bob) Mead and younger sister Charlene Howard. Gary is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, sister in laws, brother in laws, nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his older sister, Diane Mead, younger brother baby James Howard, and father Amon James Howard. An adventuresome spirit, Gary enjoyed scuba diving, ski-diving, snow skiing, boating, fishing and nature walks. Always curious Gary enjoyed traveling including vacations to Fiji, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, the Bahamas, various Caribbean Islands and Hawaii. A accomplished mechanic who began at a young age working with his Dad at A.J. Howard Used Cars, he relished working with cars, motor-cycles, and machinery repair projects. More than any other activity, Gary treasured time with family, recounting goofy teenage adventures with his brother Bob, and constantly creating new family memories. Gary was well loved and will be dearly missed and often remembered. A private memorial service has been held.

FERRIS, Marion “Mern” David – 85

FERRIS, MARION “MERN” DAVID FERRIS age 85 of Otisville died Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at his home. The funeral service will be 11AM Friday, April 9, 2010 at Hudson Funeral Service Otisville, Rev. Carter Garrigues-Cortelyou officiating. Burial will take place at Smith Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 PM at Hudson Funeral Service. Mern was born on June 13, 1924 to Robert and Edith (Yorton) Ferris in Forest Twp. He was very active in the Otisville community all of his life. Avid golfer at Willow Springs Golf Course, raced canoes and hunted. He was a member of UAW local #658. He served in the Navy during WWII. He retired from A C Spark Plug in February 1976. He was a former building inspector for Forest Twp. Surving are his sons: Pat Ferris and Dennis Annass, 3 Grandchildren, many step-grandchildren, Sister: Grace Marshall, Brother: Dave Ferris, several nieces and nephews and special friend Betty Newman.
