SCHIEBER, Dora M. (Drake) 58 of Midland, died unexpectedly early Monday morning, March 14, 2011 at the MidMichigan Medical Center.
She was born on July 8, 1952 in Midland, daughter of Dorothy (Beach) Drake and the late Walter Drake Sr. She attended Midland Schools, graduating from Dow High School. The former Dora M. Drake married David Schieber on January 30, 1971 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Midland. She enjoyed playing bingo at the Midland V.F.W., cooking, baking and spending time with her family and grandchildren. Dora and David were foster parents for 60 kids in nine years. She is survived by her husband, David; three daughters, Heather (Jeff) Bartlett, Tara (David) Bixler and Melissa Hale and her significant other Travis Thompson all of Midland; her mother, Dorothy Drake of Midland; one brother, David “Bill” (Lila) Drake of Midland; one sister, Ruth Ann Smith and her significant other Jim Simms of Midland; grandchildren, Haley Bartlett, Dustin Bartlett, Rebecca Bixler, Braxton Hale, Parker Thompson and Grace Thompson. She will also be missed by her dogs Cricket, Willie and Brady. In addition to her father, Dora was predeceased by one brother, Walter “Pete” Drake Jr.
~Funeral~ Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2011 from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street. Pastor Matthew Makela of St. John’s Lutheran Church will officiate with burial in Midland City Cemetery.
~Visitation~ Dora’s family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service. ~Memorials~ Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the family.

GIBBS, Cyrus H. “Homer” – Of Rogers, Arkansas, age 87, died Saturday, March 12, 2011 in Springdale, Arkansas. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11a.m. Friday, March 18, 2011 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton, MI 48529, Father Steve Anderson officiating. Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation 1-3 p.m. and 5-8p.m. Thursday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Scripture Service will be held at 7p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Gibbs will be at the church 10:30 a.m. Friday until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.

Homer was born in Dover, Tennessee on June 28, 1923. He married Blanche Long on June 7, 1943 in Flint. Homer served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II, serving in Guadalcanal. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, U.T.C., VFW, and American Legion, Post #100. He was employed by Oven Fresh Bakery, as a driver-salesman, for over 30 years, retiring in 1979. Homer resided in Flint for most of his life. He moved to Rogers, Arkansas in 1997, where he was active part of the Innisfree Senior Living Community.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Innisfree Senior Living Center, 300 Innisfree Circle, Rogers, AR, 72758. Surviving are two daughters, Juanita Berryman of Flint, Janice and husband Tim Fowler of Jackson, Michigan; three grandchildren, Jill and husband Mark Gould, Michael and wife Laurie Gibbs and Craig Berryman; 2 great-grandchildren, Douglas and Timothy; Sister-in-law, Beverly and husband, Donald Morin of Gaines, MI; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche, on May 30, 2003, daughter, Carol, brothers, Cecil, Gilbert and Elmore and sister, Betty.

DUNN, Mattie Pearl – 87

DUNN, Mattie Pearl age 87, born in Olaton Kentucky, on January 21, 1924, died peacefully on March 14, 2011, at Genesys Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty years, William Truit Dunn in October, 1995. Mattie and her husband moved to Flint after he returned from WWII. Mattie worked for Ternstedt for twenty-five years. She was a life-long member of Central Baptist Church. Mattie leaves to cherish her memory a son, Randall T. Dunn and wife, Veronica; three grandchildren, Curtis W. Dunn and wife, Ann; Nathan T. Dunn and wife, Melissa; and Kristi Dunn. She was blessed with four great grandchildren – Audrey, Cole, Jacob, and Cyrus. She also leaves three sisters; Catherine of Owensboro, KY. Mildred of Houston TX, and Clara Jean of Beaver Dam, KY. Our gratitude to Sterling House of Davison for their loving care of Mattie during the last three years. Family will greet friends at Hansen funeral Home 421 N. Main St. Davison, on Friday March 18, 2011, from 1:00 – 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at Hansen Funeral Home at 11:00 am Saturday March 19, 2011, with Rev.
