WARSON, HOWARD LEMOINE, age 91 of Clio, died Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Genesys Hospice- Goodrich . The Funeral service will be 1:00PM Monday, March 29, 2010 at Hudson Funeral Service-Otisville. Pastor Justin Ringstaff and Pastor Don Garcia will be officiating. Burial to follow at Thetford Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, March 29, 2010 from 10AM to time of service at Hudson Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clio Seventh Day Adventist Building Fund at 303 S. Mill St., Clio, MI 48420, or the Frankenmuth Wood Carvers Guild, or a charity of one’s choice. Howard was born in Marion, MI on May 8, 1918 to Jess and Elsie (Byers) Warson. He married Lillan M. Waterous on June 2, 1946. He served in the Army during WWII and worked for Dee Cramer Heating and Cooling for 20 years. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Clio. Howard and Lillan helped start the South Flint Seventh Day Adventist Church where they left many friends before moving to the Clio church. He was a professional wood carver and was a charter member of the Frankenmuth Wood Carvers Guild. He crafted the totem pole, bear, and nutcracker that are on display in Heritage Park in Frankenmuth. He was also a member of the DAV Wolverine State Chapter 33 and the Sheet Metal Workers International-Flint #533 & Lansing #7. He enjoyed bird watching, gardening, and the Detroit Tigers. He is survived by daughter-in-law: Carol (Ed) Medford; Granddaughter: Joy (Lewis) Row; sisters: Maxine Dunning of Flint and Ruth Ann (Charles) Fent of Birch Run; Cousins: Herb, George, and Tom Warson, Carol Therth, and Mable and Ida Trudgen; many nieces and nephews; special adopted son: Larry McPherson; Adopted grandchildren: Kristy, Jay, and Brad; Special Friends: Janie Eggers, Carrie, Karlie, Derek and Lindsay, Janette Hitchcock, Scott and Karen Coons, Debbie Gagnon, Connie Rivard, Betty, Wrege, and Debbie Vuillemot; his church family; and best friend, Snowball. He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Lillan of 59 years; brothers: Bill, Charlie, Max, and Jessy Warson. Special Thanks to Genesys Home Hospice and the Care Center staff in Goodrich; longtime friend and doctor, Dr. Weinner; care manager, Dan Ogden and all of his home aides that helped him live at home. Also Dr. DyBall, Dr. Black, Dr. Pavone, Dr. Arnold and staff, and Dr. George Mohamedally who helped Howard to live a long and healthy life. SPRINGSTEEN, Russell C – 91

SPRINGSTEEN, Russell C. – Of Flint, age 91, died Thursday, March 25, 2010 at home surrounded by his family. Funeral service will be held 1pm Monday, March 29, 2010 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Reverend John Clair Ferris officiating. Cremation to follow service. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope United Methodist Church or Genesys Hospice. Visitation 2-8p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Russell was born in Otisville, MI on November 22, 1918. He graduated from Lapeer High School, Class of 1937. On January 3, 1938, he married Audrey June. Russell worked in plant security at GM for 32 years, retiring in 1976. He served in the Army from 1944 to 1946. Russell was a member of Hope United Methodist Church. He enjoyed music and listening to his IPOD and was a very competitive fantasy baseball player. He was a long-time Detroit Tigers fan. He attended at least one Tigers game every year beginning in 1927, missing only the year he was on Okinawa and the last two years due to his illness.

Mr. Springsteen is survived by his wife, Audrey; Three children, Douglas (Linda) of Indian River, MI, David (Alice) of Durand, MI and Diane (David) Martin of Flint, MI; 12 grandchildren, Celeste, Barry, Jennifer, Lisa, Russell, David, John, Denise, Amy, Beth, Becky and Chris; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Earl.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Bertha, brothers, Claude and Clyde, sisters, Dorothy and Florence.

PORTER, Maxine K., age 86 of Durand, passed away on Friday, March 26, 2010 at Avalon Hospice in Flint. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at the United Methodist Church of Durand, 10016 E. Newburg Rd. Durand, MI 48429. Pastor Wayne Thomas will be officiating with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon. The family will receive friends at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel on Sunday from 6-8pm and again on Monday from 2-4 &6-8pm.

Mrs. Porter was born on February 6, 1924 in Corunna, MI the daughter of Wallace and Martha (Malazhan) Reid. She married Clifford Porter in Durand on February 7, 1942 and together raised 4 children. He later passed in 1994.

Mrs. Porter was a member of both the Order of Eastern Star and the United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Becky (David) Shenk of FL; 3 sons: Darwin (Pat) Porter of FL, Dean (Brenda) Porter of MS, Dennis (Terry) Porter of Bancroft; 10 grandchildren: Vickie Shenk of FL, Scott Shenk of Durand, Ronna Porter of Grand Rapids, Stacey Richardson of FL, Kelley DeBar of MS, Kerry Porter of Howell, Adam Porter of CO, Andrew Porter of Bancroft, Amber Davis of OH, Ashton Porter of Bancroft; 9 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren.

NORTH, Carmeleta “Carmen” Belle, age 80 of Ludington, MI formerly of Bancroft and Morrice died Thursday, March 25, 2010.

Carmen was born on August 2, 1929 in Benton, Missouri to Orval and Minnie (Kitchen) Cates. Carmen lived and worked for many years in the Durand, Bancroft and Morrice areas. She was a cook at Bertha Neal Elementary School in Durand.

Carmen is survived by her children Diana Burger of Ludington, MI, Dallas Pettyjohn of Baldwin, MI, Allen Pettyjohn of Plant City, FL and Connie Leuenberger of Vineyard Haven, MA; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Claude North, granddaughter Renee Remer, brother James and sisters Betty and Wilmetta.

MILLER, Roy Joseph, 67 of Midland, died Thursday evening, March 25, 2010 at his home. He was born on January 8, 1943 in Sanford, son of the late Ray and Ida (Westphal) Miller. On July 14, 1962 Roy was united in marriage to the former Julie Ann Hignite and he now joins the love of his life who predeceased him on April 3, 2005. Roy was employed with Stalker Corporation in Essexville and retired from the City of Midland in 2006. He was a member of the Sanford Eagles Lodge # 3677 where he enjoyed playing pool and having conversation with his life long friends. He was an avid WWF fan, he liked puttering around the house and working on cars. He was animated, funny and fiercely loyal to family and friends. Surviving are his children and their spouses, Rodney (Laurie) Miller of Leesburg, FL., Ida (Glenn) MacDonald of Windham, ME., Dennis (Cheri) Miller of Milton, FL., Barbara (David) Turner of Midland, Anna (David) Spencer of Homosassa, FL.; 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; a sister, Barbara (Edwin) Shrier of Midland and his special companion, Cheryl Inman. In addition to his parents and wife, one sister and brother-in-law, Joan (Kenneth) Wilkinson predeceased him.

MESSECAR, Leona Elizabeth – 90

MESSECAR, Leona Elizabeth, 90, of Midland, went to the Lord Thursday, March 25, 2010 surrounded by family and friends. Born in Alma on June 9, 1919 to Edwin and Edna Clark, she was the youngest of four children.

Leona married James A. Messecar on Dec. 6, 1952. A dutiful housewife and working mother, Leona balanced family and work with ease and grace. Throughout her life, Leona maintained a strong work ethic and commitment to family. Although Midland was her home, where she lived in the house built by her husband, she traveled throughout the world. Leona’s travels took her through most the United States, Europe, and even North Africa. Even at the age of 90, Leona was still an adventurous spirit with a sharp wit and sense of humor. She lived a full and active life with her wonderful family and friends.
Her husband James preceded her in death in 1986. She is also preceded in death by her parents and three older brothers. Leona is survived by her only daughter, Gisele Messecar and her fiancé, Brent Barnhart and his son, Gordon of Minvera, Ohio; granddaughter, Taryn M. Ames and her husband, Joshua Ames of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandson, James E. Bliss, Jr. and his fiancé Lindsey LaTour of Charlotte, Mich.; great-grandson, Aidan J. Ames; her close friend Lois Wicks of Midland, and a warm circle of amazing relatives and friends.
~Funeral Services~

Funeral Services will take place at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 29, 2010, from the Ware Smith Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street. Pastor Dan Youmans will officiate.

~Visitation~
Leona’s family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, and on Monday from 12 noon until time of service. Burial will follow in Homer Township Cemetery.
A luncheon at the Floyd Church of God, Midland, will follow the burial service.

Harry was born in Flint on April 5, 1924, and was a resident of Flint all his life. Harry served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Guadalcanal Campaign. He was employed for 42 years with Fisher Body I, retiring in 1988. He married Gaynell Haner on June 5, 1954. Harry was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.

Surviving are wife, Gaynell; Blessed with two sons, Dr. Scott Graves and Gale (Cheryl) Graves; 4 grandchildren, Lauren (Todd), Andrew, Christopher and Courtney; 2 sisters, Ruth Gould and Janice Skunda; Lou Ann Adamson, daughter-in-law; Brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Jeannine Hewitt and John and Patti Haner; Several nieces and nephews.

Pamela was born in Flint on February 11, 1954, the daughter of the late Russell and Gail (Donehue) Morgan. Pam was a life member of the Chapter 2239 Moose Lodge.

Surviving are children, Ian and wife Tiffany Jones and Cami Jones Granddaughter, Hannah Jones; Sister, Judie and husband Don Pollock; Brother, Ron and wife Peggy Morgan; Sister-in-law, Carol Morgan; Many nieces and nephews; Boyfriend, Harvey Best; JoAnn Hunter, who was like a mother to Pam.

She was preceded in death by son, Timothy Slawson, brothers, James and Russell Morgan, and Roy Jones, the father of her children.

Lois was born in Flint, Michigan on May 23, 1926, the daughter of Elmer and Eva (Mathews) Bois. She married France Beaulieu on March 4, 1947 and he preceded her in death on June 14, 1983.

Surviving are two children, Robert and wife Michele Beaulieu, Rebecca and husband Fred Margrif; three grandchildren, Scott (Jennifer) Margrif, Jill (Ramsey) Clapper and Nicole Beaulieu; three great-grandchildren, Rourke, Noah and Rafe; one brother, Ed (Neomia) Bois; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy, Violet and Geraldine Bois; brothers-in-law, Joe (Rose) Beaulieu and Tom Thompson; Many nieces and nephews.
