Monday, March 15th, 2010MURRAY, Ruth Marie – of Flint, age 81, passed away March 12, 2010 at Genesys Hospice Care Center-Goodrich. A Funeral Service will be held 11 am Monday, March 15, 2010 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Pastor Jack Dowden and Captain Jon Augenstein co-officiating. Burial will follow in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 12-4 and 6-8 pm Sunday. On Monday, there will be visitation from 10-11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Band League.
Ruth was born in Dugger, Indiana on May 23, 1928, daughter of the late Charles and Hettie (Jones) Krug. Ruth Krug married John Murray in Grand Blanc, MI on June 21, 1946. John preceded her in death on March 18, 1998.
Ruth is survived by sons; Greg (Lorrie), Alex (Sylvia), Scott (Lisa); grandchildren, Brandon Murray, Rachel Mestas, Alina Christen and Christal Coulter; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; special friends, Sherry and Billy Byrum. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles, Thomas and Paul Krug; sisters, Martha Kirby, Norma Sladin, Hester Dutton, Doris Laing and Betty Glass.

MILLER JR., Roy – 81
Monday, March 15th, 2010MILLER Jr., Roy, 81 of Midland, died Thursday, March 11, 2010 at home. He was born February 5, 1929 in Porter Township, son of the late Roy and Ethel (Breidinger) Miller. Roy grew up in Porter Township attending schools there. On July 19, 1947 he married the former Belva J. Phillips at the Presbyterian Church in Midland and they celebrated 50 years of loving marriage. Belva predeceased him in death on February 11, 1999. He went to work at The Dow Chemical Company in 1947 as an operator and retired in 1982 after 35 years of service. Roy and Belva then started their new lives working and playing at Whiskey Creek Resort. Dad enjoyed playing Bingo and had an uncanny lucky streak. Dad was a quiet man, but his smile and twinkling eyes could light up a room and warm your heart. He is survived by his children, Roger (Mary) Miller, Beverley Marsh, (Timothy), Robert (Janet) Miller all of Midland and Chester Miller of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Tammy (Bob) Sian, Susan Carter (Stewart), Jody (Scott) Webb, Tracy (Kimberly) Martin, Jacob (Stacy) Miller, Shannon (Miller) Brown and Jeremey Miller, Sara (Derek) Macheske; great grandchildren, Joshua and Heather Sian, Alyissa and Kayle Martin, Jorden Miller, Rogan Carter, Carson and Braden Miller, Zachary Webb, and Elliana Macheske; great great grandchildren, Paige Sian, and Daijie Sian; sisters and brothers, Bethel St. Louis, Leo Miller, Ella Edwards, Laura Northrup, Jerry Miller, Lynn Miller and his special friend Ethel Hoepfl. In addition to his wife and parents a daughter-in-law, Patricia (Spence) Miller, grandson Jason J. Miller in 2007 and sisters, Joy Lytle, Shirley Sterling, and Doris Grear all predeceased Roy.
SERVICES
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 15, 2010 from Messiah Lutheran Church. Pastor John Langewisch will officiate with burial to take place in Sanford Cemetery.
VISITATION
Roy’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 Wheeler Street on Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Monday, March 15th, 2010MATTESON, Sandra Kay (Kryso) – of Clio, formerly of Flint, passed away March 13, 2010 at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer. A Funeral Service will be held 1 pm Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, Pastor Dwight Rottiers officiating. Burial will be in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 10 am-2 pm & 4-8 pm on Monday and 12-1 pm Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the McLaren Cancer Center.
Sandra was born in Saginaw, MI on August 10, 1944, daughter of the late Theodore and Theresa (Petoskey) Korting. Sandra Korting married Andrew Martin Kryso of Flint on July 20, 1963. Andrew preceded her in death on July 9, 1982. Sandra married Richard Fredrick Matteson of Clio on November 2, 1987. Richard preceded her in death on July 3, 2001. She resided in Clio and worked at VG’s of Clio for 6 years. Sandra worked at Williams Elementary School as a lunch lady for many years. She liked to spend her summers with family and friends at her cabin in Gladwin, MI.
Sandra is survived by her daughters, Tammy Townson of Burton, Rebecca (Alexander) Simpson of Davison, Laura (Todd) Hagen of Minnesota, Melissa Wood of Davison; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven step-children; brothers, Albert (Patricia) Korting, Larry (Barbara) Korting; sisters, Ruth (Bernard) Hartman, Martha (Dennis) O’Connor, Mary Lou Korting, Nancy (Robert) Pufahl, Agnes Benson; sister-in-law, Linda Korting; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Theodore Korting and William Korting. Sandra’s family would like to give a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at McLaren Cancer Center, Avalon Hospice, and to Rainee and Rick Bozung, Roni and John Ray for all of the help that they have gave their mother.

Pearline was born in Gideon, Missouri on December 15, 1932, the daughter of the late Clarence and Grace (Farmer) McCormick. She married Patrick Kelly on September 27, 1952 in Angola, Indiana. She loved cooking, reading, crocheting, playing Bingo and spending time with her family. Surviving are daughters, Rhonda Molina of Mt. Morris, Kathy and husband Dennis Hayes of Waterford, Carol Bennett of Flint, Kimberly and husband Troy Huffman of Flint; grandchildren, Richard and wife Sarah, Ryan and wife Joanna, Andria and husband Charles, Jovey and husband Emy, Wendy and Justin, Dennis and wife Katie, Tommy and wife Kristen, Sarah, Ashley, Troy and wife Jessica, Jonathan and Angela; ten great-grandchildren and three on the way; sister, Patty and husband Gerald Kelly; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick, on May 17, 2000; son-in-law, Richard Molina and brother, Robert.

Monday, March 15th, 2010DOELLNER, Margaret Louise – Of Flint, age 81, died on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at Hamilton Assisted Living. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Chris Ames officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to Heartland Hospice. Visitation 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 12 noon Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Margaret was born in Flint, Michigan on June 22, 1928, to Ethel (Smith) and Joseph McAuliffe.
Mrs. Doellner was employed by the Flint Journal for a brief time before she married Ernest F. Doellner, Jr. in 1950. They spent time in Salt Lake City, Utah, where Ernest was stationed with the Air Force during the Korean War. After returning to Flint, Ernest got his Business Degree and began his long career at General Motors.
Margaret was a devoted mother, staying home to raise five children.
She was a member of the South Flint Seventh Day Adventist Church and served as the Press Secretary at one time. Surviving are children, Christopher Doellner of Lansing, Delynne and husband Brian Cullen of San Anselmo, California, Gregory and wife Carla Doellner of Grand Blanc, Kathleen and husband Robert Robart of Grand Blanc, Thomas and wife Lisa Doellner of Fenton; grandchildren, Erin, Rachelle, Jonathon, Alysha, Spencer, Mathew and Nevin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest and brother, Charles McAuliffe.
We are grateful to the staff at Hamilton’s Assisted Living for caring for Margaret these last four years and making a home away from home for her. Thanks also to Heartland Hospice for their care and support.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at St. Johns the Evangelist Catholic Church, Davison, Rev. Fr. Andrew Czajkowski officiating. Cremation will take place at Sunset hills Crematory. Visitation will be Monday from 1-9PM at Hudson Funeral Service. Bob was born in Standish, MI on January 4, 1926 to William and Genevieve (Angers) Cardinal. He married Jane Foster on October 1, 1949 in Standish. Bob was a member of St. Johns the Evangelist Catholic Church in Davison and the Standish VFW Post 3724. He enjoyed reading and working with wood and was an all-around handyman. Surviving is 4 children: David Cardinal, Patrick (Beverly) Cardinal, Susan (Joshua) Swanagon and Mary Colpetzer. 12 grandchildren: Christopher (Terry) Comstock, Andrea and Theran Cardinal, Naaman Cardinal, Amanda (Ben) Eles, Sabrina and Shelby Cardinal, Sean (Debbie) Hannon, Sara (Jason French) Leonard, Tanner Swanagon, and Ian and Marisa Colpetzer. 11 great grandchildren: Troy, Ryan, Brandon, Genevieve, Katherine, Garrett, Jalen, Savannah, Nicholas, Jacob, and Amelia. He is preceded in death by his wife: Jane; son: Daniel; infant son: Bruce; and infant granddaughter: Samantha.

Monday, March 15th, 2010BATES, Elaine F. age 54 of Laingsburg passed away on Friday, March 12, 2010 at Sparrow Health Systems, Lansing.
Elaine was born on April 7, 1955 in Owosso, the daughter of Francis and JoAnn (Galvin)Ketchum. She was a 1973 graduate of Bath High School. On September 6, 1975 she married Raymond Bates in Lansing. Elaine was the office manager for Granger Container Company of Lansing.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond, three children, Joshua Bates of Laingsburg, Carrie Bates of Laingsburg and Andrew (Courtney)Bates of St. Johns, grandchildren, Logan and Noah Hagerty, Audrey, Ava and Lilian Bates, one sister Eileen(Dan) Stover of PA, two brothers Bill Ketchum of AZ and Tim (Debra) Ketchum of Laingsburg and her mother JoAnn.

Helen was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 16, 1917, the daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Maloney) Dugan. Surviving are two sons, David and wife Marilee of Washington, D.C., Robert and wife Barbara of Swartz Creek; five grandchildren, Robert (Theresa), Christian (Tiffany) Beall, Brant (Dorothy) and Brett Resko, Stacey and husband Scott Braley; great-grandchildren, Ashley and Joseph Braley, Nathan and Tyson Resko, Kyle, Emma and Carly Resko and Haylee Beall. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, on December 31, 1997; parents and four brothers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2415 Bagley St. Flint. No public viewing prior to the start of the funeral Tuesday morning. Family will receive visitors from 12-8 p.m. Monday, March 15 at Dodds Dumanois Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 901 Garland St., Flint. A 7 p.m. Scripture service will be held Monday evening. Burial in New Calvary Cemetery, Fr. T. Firestone officiating. Donations may be made to the Childrens Miracle Network and St. John Vianney School; donation envelopes provided at the funeral home. Betty was born December 12, 1924 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Frederick and Marie B. (Wojtkowiak) Clegg. She graduated from St. Michael Catholic School in 1942 and was joined in marriage to Stanley Cisowski October 6, 1956 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Betty worked as a senior teller for Genesee Bank with 29 years of service retiring in 1987. She was the director for the religious education at St. John Vianney during the 1970’s. Betty lived her life with grace and dignity caring about others more than herself. She is survived by her daughter, Karen and husband Randy Josey of Swartz Creek; son, Marty Cisowski of Flushing; three grandchildren, Nicholaus and Nichole Josey and Keegan Cisowski; sister-in-law, Agnes Tracy; several nieces, nephews; and many special friends. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Cisowski in May 1991, parents Frederick Clegg in January 1977 and Marie Clegg in March 1989. Special thanks to St. John Vianney family for their love and prayers over the years, Genesys ER and Genesys Hospice staff especially Chris and Larry.

Velma was born in Lapeer, MI on June 24, 1917, the daughter of the late John Eick and Bertha Range. She was a longtime member of Calvary Lutheran Church where she served as church secretary. More recently, she attended Our Savior Lutheran Church. Velma worked for many years as a library aide for the Flint Public Schools. She loved to sew and knit. Velma used her talent to help make quilts for the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. There wasn’t a birth or marriage in the family that didn’t receive one of her quilts or afghans.
Velma is survived by her children, Dallas and wife Joanne of Grawn, Darryl and wife Sally of Flint, Debra Deming and husband Kenneth of Davison; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Velma was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, James; brothers, Ronald and Gerald; daughter-in-law, Ruth and great-granddaughter, Jacqueline. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of
the Lord.

Stan was born in St. Clair Shores on July 17, 1937, the son of the late Walter and Margaret Shelman. Stan married Carole Roberts on April 16, 1966. Stan was an avid bowler.
Surviving are wife, Carole; Son, Chris and wife Renee Shelman of Flushing; Grandson, Vincent Shelman; 3 sisters, Karen Krzeminski, Sandra Pascoe and Bertha Commyns; Brother, Walter Wayne Shelman; Brother-in-law, James Roberts; Several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, George.
SCHOTTER, Ernest – 74
Sunday, March 14th, 2010SCHOTTER Ernest, age 74 of Byron, passed away on Friday, March 5, 2010 at Memorial Healthcare Center in Owosso. Funeral services will be held at the New Apostolic Church located at 4250 Marianne Drive Flushing, MI 48433 on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Priests Dennis Montrull and Raymond Schotter will be co-officiating the service. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00am until the time of service.
Mr. Schotter was born on June 12, 1935 in Detroit, MI the son of Wilhelm and Anna (Diehl) Schotter. On March 5, 1955 he married Faith Richardson at his parents’ farm in Gaines, MI and together raised 3 children.
Mr. Schotter was a Skilled Trades machinist for General Motors for over 20 years until his retirement in 1996 and belonged to the 52 Club in Byron. He enjoyed the simple things in life like woodworking, maintaining his lawn, relaxing with his cat in the back yard and smoking his pipe.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Faith; 2 children: Rebecca Smith of Owosso, Kerry (Tim) Bennett of Clio; 5 grandchildren: Amy, Brett, Zachary, Anna, Megan; 2 great grandchildren: Nathan and Aiden; Niece, Carol (Dennis) Montrull; nephew, Raymond (Charlene) Schotter and his beloved cat, Spike.
