Young, Kathryn L. – of Montrose, age 76, died Thursday, February 18, 2010 at MediLodge of Montrose. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Pastor Eddie Phillips officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 AM until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice or a charity of choice.

Kate was born June 13, 1933 in Burt, Michigan to the late Albert and Kathryn (Stevens) Huber. She married Joseph Young on September 20, 1952. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2004. Kate worked as a nurse’s aide at Owosso Memorial Hopsital for several years and was also employed as a school bus driver for the New Lothrop School District. She was also a life member of the New Lothrop VFW Ladie’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed bingo, crocheting and casinos.

Surviving are: 4 children: Carolyn Young of Chesaning, Leona Young of New Lothrop, Debra (Mike) Brabant of Burt and Joseph Young of Farwell. 6 grandchildren. 2 great grandchildren. Brothers and sisters: Ed (Jackie) Huber, Jack (Gloria) Huber, Hank Huber, Dale (Joan) Stevens, Regina (Gene) Sanders and Mary Maitland. Former daughter in law: Sheila Young. Kate was also preceded in death by 4 brothers: Dick, Don, Al and Bobby.

SHEPHARD, Morris Richard – 82

SHEPHARD,  Morris Richard – Of Flint, age 82, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 17, 2010.

 Morris was born at home to mother, Emma C. (Clark) and father Richard S. Shephard on July 14, 1927. He was raised in Brown City, Michigan and worked on his parents dairy farm, which is still owned by his brother, Lloyd.

 He attended Poplar Point School until 8th grade, when he had to quit so he could help his dad with the farm. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War at Fort Brag, North Carolina.

 Mr. Shephard worked at the Marlette Coach Factory and at a peat moss factory in Sandusky, coming to Flint in 1962. He was employed at Chevrolet V-8 Engine Plant, retiring in 1989.

 He married Dawn E. Alexander on June 22, 1957 and they were married for 48 years, when she preceded him in death on November 6, 2005.

 He is leaving in his memory, his three children, Donald E. and wife Penny L. (Starkings) Shephard, Barbara (Shephard) and husband Jerry Green and Penny Sue Shephard; four grandchildren, Melanie Shephard, Jerry Jr. and Jennifer Green and James Hinton; He will be sadly missed by brother, Lloyd and wife Pat; sister, Leola and husband Dwane Brock; many nieces and nephews.

 He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris and husband, Albert; sisters-in-law, Elda Webb (Lila) Boyer and brother-in-law, Stanley Alexander.

 Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor James Olah officiating.

 Burial in Crestwood Cemetery with a military service under the auspices of VFW Chevrolet Motor Post #3087 Honor Guard. Visitation 11 a.m.–8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Those desiring may make contributions to Life Fellowship Chapel.

McKINSTRY, Helen L. – Of Lapeer, age 88, died Wednesday, February 17, 2010, with her family by her side at her residence. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, February 22, 2010 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Larry Burk officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Missionary, Ron Self c/o the South Baptist Church. Visitation 12-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday and 12 noon Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Helen was born in Kennett, Missouri on June 29, 1921, the daughter of the late Ira and Iva (Stein) Smith. On July 8, 1938 she married Clare McKinstry in Flint and he preceded her in death on January 25, 2005. She was a member of the South Baptist Church since 1947. Mrs. McKinstry worked at Buick taking Clare’s position when he left for World War II; she then worked at AC Spark Plug Division for 23 years, retiring in 1976. Surviving are children, JoAnn (Sheldon) Williams, Margaret Wallace and Ron (Linette) McKinstry; eight grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Sharon) Smith; dearest sister, Gloria Dugas; sister-in-law, Sarah Smith; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by grandson, Aaron M. McKinstry; three brothers, James, Dwayne and IJ Smith.

BROWNSON, Shirley A. – Age 89, of Davison, died Monday, February 15, 2010 at Genesys Hospice, Goodrich, Michigan.The family will receive friends at the Hansen Funeral Home, 421 Main St., Davison on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A private family burial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2010 at Elm Lawn Cemetery, Bay City, Michigan with Pastor Bill Allwardt officiating. Shirley was born December 15, 1920 in Bay City, Michigan the daughter of the late Harvey Hayward and Lillian Hayward Fish. She married Dallas Dean Brownson on March 5, 1942 and they resided in the Flint area. He preceded her in death in 1981. Also preceding her in death were her daughter Mary Ann, great-granddaughter Samantha Rose Sacco, son-in-law Col. James F. Russell, step -father Lcdr. Norris L. Fish, and best friend Mary Lou Pattinson. She was a member of the Jr. League of Flint, the Red Cross, McLaren Hospital Auxiliary, Flint Symphony Auxiliary (Allegro) and the Women’s Auxiliary of Michigan for Reserve Officers Association. Shirley was a lady of great style and gracious a hostess. Most of all, she was a devoted mother, a generous friend and a brave and bright spirit. She leaves to treasure her memory children Susan Russell of Sarasota, Fl, Dallas Brownson (Jan) of Saginaw and Deborah Young (Clyde) of Davison; grandchildren Brian Peyton, Brooke Sacco (George), and Michael Peyton; great – grandchildren Ken, Ashley, Kelsey and Justin Peyton, and Joseph and Mary Ann Sacco; and devoted cat Naomi. Those desiring may make contributions to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research, The Alzheimer’s Association, The Genesee County Humane Society or a charity of their choice.

BRAVENDER, Judith Lee – Of Flushing, age 47, a loving wife and mother, died suddenly Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. A Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010 at St. Robert Catholic Church, Fr. Louis Ekka officiating. Cremation will follow the Mass. Visitation will be Noon-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. until time of the Mass Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family for her daughter’s education. Judy was born April 4, 1962 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Dale and Carol (Gardner) McDaniel. She married Philip M. Bravender on March 12, 1982 in Flint. She was a lifetime resident of the Flushing area and graduated in 1980 from Flushing High School. Judy is survived by: husband, Philip; daughter, Leigh; parents, Dale and Carol McDaniel; siblings, Cynthia Jakeway, Susan (Scott) McPherson, Diane (Dave) Gagne, David (Elizabeth) McDaniel, all of Flushing, Lisa (Daniel) Waldron of Flint Twp.; mother-in-law, Doris Bravender of Flushing; brother-in-law, Russ (Toni) Bravender of Clio; several nieces and nephews.
