SHEPHARD,  Morris Richard – Of Flint, age 82, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 17, 2010.

Morris was born at home to mother, Emma C. (Clark) and father Richard S. Shephard on July 14, 1927. He was raised in Brown City, Michigan and worked on his parents dairy farm, which is still owned by his brother, Lloyd.

He attended Poplar Point School until 8th grade, when he had to quit so he could help his dad with the farm. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War at Fort Brag, North Carolina.

Mr. Shephard worked at the Marlette Coach Factory and at a peat moss factory in Sandusky, coming to Flint in 1962. He was employed at Chevrolet V-8 Engine Plant, retiring in 1989.

He married Dawn E. Alexander on June 22, 1957 and they were married for 48 years, when she preceded him in death on November 6, 2005.

He is leaving in his memory, his three children, Donald E. and wife Penny L. (Starkings) Shephard, Barbara (Shephard) and husband Jerry Green and Penny Sue Shephard; four grandchildren, Melanie Shephard, Jerry Jr. and Jennifer Green and James Hinton; He will be sadly missed by brother, Lloyd and wife Pat; sister, Leola and husband Dwane Brock; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris and husband, Albert; sisters-in-law, Elda Webb (Lila) Boyer and brother-in-law, Stanley Alexander.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor James Olah officiating.

Burial in Crestwood Cemetery with a military service under the auspices of VFW Chevrolet Motor Post #3087 Honor Guard.

Visitation 11 a.m.–8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home.

PATSY, Donald – Of Swartz Creek, age 65, died Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at his residence. Funeral service will be held 12 Noon, Friday, February 19, 2010 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Larry Rednower officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Contributions may be made to the North End Soup Kitchen. 

Visitation 2-8pm Thursday at the funeral home. Donald was born in Somerset, Pennsylvania on February 8, 1945, and was a resident of the Flint area most of his life. On June 22, 1996, he married Joyce Durbin. Donald served in the U.S. Marine Corp in Bogota, Colombia.

Donald was employed by Fisher Body until closing, transferring to Buick, where he retired in 1999. He was a member of Local #599 and Dom Polski. Donald attended New Haven Baptist Church. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Surviving are wife, Joyce; daughter, Michelle and husband Jim Papa of Chicago;

son, Jeffrey and wife Kimberly of Canton, MI; five step-children, Michael and wife Charlene Durbin of Clarkston, Kelly and husband Rick Comerford of Bradenton, FL, Joseph Durbin of Flint, Drew Wesenberg of Flint, Christopher and wife Wendy Durbin of Knoxville, TN; many grand and great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara and husband Dan Baker of Somerset, PA; two brothers, Randy and wife Donna of Kansas; Ronald and wife Barb of Missouri. He was preceded in death by parents, John and Annabel; brother, Barry. The family extends a special thank you to all of Donald’s neighbors and friends.

LEWIS, Daniel G. – 59

 LEWIS, Daniel G. – of Clio, age 59, died Monday, February 15, 2010 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Dan was born September 8, 1950 in Flint, Michigan to Gerald and Jane (MacKenzie) Lewis and lived in Clio the past 25 years. He married Wendy Rainey on December 31, 2009. Mr. Lewis retired from AT & T with 30 years seniority. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Clio and the Loyal Order of Moose. He loved deer hunting.

Surviving are: wife, Wendy; children, Brett and Karrie; step children, David, Kim, Krystal and Carrie; 6 grandchildren; mother, Jane Lewis; sister, Cindy (Jerry) Spaw; brother, Fred (Peggy) Lewis; several nieces and nephews. LEMBACH, Charles B. – Of Sterling, formerly of Clio, age 53, died Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Rev. Darrell Bailey officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 1-9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Cancer Treatment Centers of America. Charles was born January 25, 1957 in Flint, Michigan to the late Charles and Katherine (Donahue) Lembach. He had resided in Sterling the past 10 years coming from Ohio and Clio. Charles graduated from Clio High School in 1975. He won a Big Nine Wrestling Championship in 1975. He was retired from General Motors since 2005. Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating. He was also a bee keeper in his spare time and loved spending time with his children and granddaughter. Surviving are: two daughters, Jessica (Alex) Cobb of Delta, Ohio, Kelli Lembach of Wauseon, Ohio; granddaughter, Alexis Cobb; brother, Scott Lembach of Clio; sister, Kathryn Thomas and Mel of Aurora, IL; fiancee, Phyllis Coleman of Sterling.

JACKSON, Judy P. age 61 of the Durand area, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel. Pastor Deweerd Smith will be officiating with burial to follow in Yerian Cemetery, Lennon. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1-8pm.

Mrs. Jackson was born on June 13, 1948 in Waverly, TN the daughter of Gilbert and Martha (Nash) Shaw.

She is survived by her 3 children: Lisa (David) Ballard of Lennon, Mark Reid of Durand, David Barker of Franklin, TN; 3 grandchildren: Shana, Lacie, Trey; 3 brothers: Earl (Nora) Montgomery, James (Charlotte) Shaw, Paul Shaw; sister-in-law Christine Sabuco; former husband Joe Barker.

She was preceded in death by former husband Mike Reid; 2 grandchildren: Conner and Logan; niece Paulette Shaw.

GILSON, Carson D. – 87

GILSON, Carson D. – age 87, of Davison, MI, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at His Caring Arms (Assisted Living), Holly, MI.

Carson was born in Otter Lake on September 26, 1922, son of the late Elizabeth (Sproul) and Lloyd Gilson. He graduated Otisville High School in 1940 and was the Class Valedictorian. Carson attended General Motors Institute, now known as Kettering University. He served three years with the United States Army during WWII. Carson was stationed overseas in Saipan and Hawaii. While in the Army, Carson married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Bishop, in Los Angeles, CA on August 30, 1943. He retired in 1979 from the office at Buick Engineering, General Motors on Hamilton St. in Flint, MI, with 37 years of service.

Carson’s hobbies included hunting, ice fishing (with no shanty), Red Wings hockey, basketball and football of all kinds. He followed the Davison Varsity Football team from 1960 to the present as an avid fan. Carson attended home and away games; more recently, following the results in the newspaper. He was a perfectionist when it came to working outdoors in his yard. Carson was always up on current events and watched CNN TV 24 hours a day. He loved to talk about politics. Eating out in area restaurants was one of his favorite pastimes. Carson’s dry sense of humor; deep, loud voice and caring heart will be most remembered.

Visitation will be 3-7:30 pm Friday, February 19, 2010 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 E. Davison Rd., Davison. There will be a private service for immediate family only. Burial will take place at Smith Hill Cemetery in Otisville, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Davison High School Football Program.

Carson’s family would like to thank Jim and Norma Jean Wartella for all of the many years of extra help they provided. A special THANK YOU to Michelle Dale Bartoli, who was a good friend of Carson in his later years. Many thanks to Heartland Hospice-Flint and Visiting Physicians Dr. Cassandra Wormack. No words can be enough to describe the sincere and wonderful treatment that Carson received while in the care of Debbie and Bill Rogers at His Caring Arms. Carson and his family were treated as if they were part of the Rogers family.

Carson leaves behind his daughters, Pam (Gilson) Snider of Grand Blanc and Wendy (Gilson) and Bill Dahlquist of Davison; granddaughter, Deanna (Kilburn) Alderman of Burton; great-grandchildren, Lea, Alex and Grant Alderman of Burton; sisters, Norma Jean (Jim) Wartella of Davison and Audrey Kitchen of East Tawas; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Carson’s wife of 43 years preceded him in death.

BASA, Benjamin “Ben”, Jr. – Of Grand Blanc, age 64, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 surrounded by his family.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 11824 South Saginaw Street in Grand Blanc, MI, Father Kusitino Cobona officiating. Ben was born in the Philippines on July 24, 1945, the son of Benjamin Sr. and Amada Basa.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and Fatima Prayer Group. Ben was employed as a Mechanical Engineer at Chrysler Corporation. Surviving are wife, Josie; two daughters, Chrissy and Jenny and son-in-law, Jason; one sister, Josie (Serafin) Ariola;

five brothers, Art (Rica), Roger (Nenita), Rene (Noemi),

Nanding (Gayleen) and Goody (Racquel); brother-in-law, Rene (Josie);

twenty-six nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, brother-in-law and sister-in-law.
