PATTERSON, Prathel “Paul” “Pops” – Of Flint, age 83, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2010 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Robert Somers officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park with a military graveside service under the auspices of VFW Post #822 Honor Guard. Visitation 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Paul was born in Rector, Arkansas on April 4, 1926. Paul served in the U.S. Navy Seabees from 1944-1946. He was a member of the Disabled Veterans. Paul loved fishing and country music. Paul retired from Buick Motor Division in 1973 and was a member of UAW Local #599. Surviving are two daughters, Vicky (Stan) Stanley and Pam (Jim) Carnes, not only a daughter, but his longtime caregiver; two grandchildren, Christopher (April) Stanley and Angela (Ryan) Daup; five great-grandchildren, Jordan, Madyson, Makayla, Makenna and Mason; loving companion, Thelma McKinsey; two sisters, Eutha (Brad) Bradshaw and Patsy (Clinton) Samuelson; several  nieces and nephews; longtime friend, Wilfred Fritts and his adored dogs, Brown Nose and Elvis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda; son, Dennis; one sister and four brothers.

IHRKE, Ernest William – age 85 of Mayville died Sunday February 14, 2010 at Heritage Hill Assisted Living. A Service of Remembrance will be ll A.M. Friday, February 19, 2010 at the Mayville United Methodist Church with Pastor Ron and Warren Phelps officiating. Family will receive visitors 10 A.M. Friday, February 19, at the church until time of the service. Ernest was born February 7, 1925 to Orva and Relva (Wells) Ihrke in Mayville. He married Eleanor Louise Phelps on April 28, 1945 in Fayetteville, N. C. He attended Mayville High School leaving after age 18 to serve his country but later received his diploma at a graduation ceremony at the school. He was a milkman in the Mayville area from which he retired from London Dairy after many years. He attended the Mayville United Methodist Church of Mayville, was a member of Mayville American Legion Post #181, and delivered Meals On Wheels. He loved his grandchildren, caring for Senior Citizens needs and enjoyed traveling with his camper or motor home, snowmobiling and fishing. He is survived by his wife Eleanor of Mayville, son: Larry (Marliese) Ihrke of Huntersville, N.C, daughters: Patricia (Gary) Dunham of Caro, Paula (Dale) Snyder of Millington, brother: DeForest (Edie) Ihrke of Caro, grandchildren: Christine, Christopher, Jennifer, Bradlee, Matthew, Lauren, Michael, great grandchildren: Courtney, Abagail, Abbey and Owen. He was preceded in death by son: Gary, brother: Robert sister: Leona Huntley, granddaughter: Julie Dunham, great grandchildren: Allison and Andrew LaPratt. GAFFNEY, Paulina Pearl (Belotta) – Of Grand Blanc, age 84, died Monday, February 15, 2010 at Genesys Convalescent Center. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 11110 North Saginaw Street, Mt. Morris, Father Thomas Nenneau officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery in Mt. Morris. Visitation 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Mrs. Gaffney will be at the church from 10:30 a.m. Thursday until the time of the Mass. Paulina was born in Walston, Pennsylvania on September 14, 1925, the daughter of Agostino “Gus” and Helena “Alice” (Gresack) Belott. Surviving are daughter, Virginia (Jeannie) Gaffney; twin sister, Beatrice Layman; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Peter and John Belott; four sisters, Rose Ann Soja, Irene Tieche, Marie and Virginia Belott.

FOLLEN, Virginia J. – Of Flint, age 91, died Sunday, February 14, 2010 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 4413 Morrish Road, Swartz Creek, Father Steven M. Mattson officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Swartz Creek Community Food Basket. Visitation 5-8 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m.-2 and 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Mrs. Follen will be at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of the Mass. Virginia was born in Flint, Michigan on July 25, 1918, the daughter of Graham and Lulu (Besley) Barlow and was a resident of the Flint area since 1947, having grown up in Vernon, Michigan.  She married John Follen on September 27, 1947. She was a member of VFW Post #4087 Auxiliary and Pierce Senior Citizens Center. Surviving are daughter, Linda and husband Kenneth Klungle of Swartz Creek; two grandchildren, Matthew Klungle and fiancee’ Melissa Shotwell of Washington and Roni Klungle of Holt, Michigan; two great-granddaughters, Kendall and Kaelyn Craddock of Holt; in-laws, Richard and Patricia Follen, Mary and Frances Follen;

many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on January 22, 2009; brothers, Shurley and Graham Barlow, Jr. Special thanks to Fostrian Court Assisted Living, McLaren 10th Floor S/W, McLaren Visiting Nurse Association, Dr. Tummala, Dr. Chardoul, Dr. K.
