Friday, February 12th, 2010Theo J. Shelp, age 83 of Durand, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2010 at McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, February 12, 2010 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel. Rev. John Walworth and Bob Sargent will both be officiating at the service with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8pm.
Mrs. Shelp was born on January 14, 1927 in Linden, the daughter of Ray and Hazel (Fisher) Sargent. She married Earl Shelp in January of 1966. He passed away in November of 1990.
Mrs. Shelp was a member of the Durand VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Durand United Methodist Church. She loved playing bingo, cards, shopping and square dancing with Earl.
Mrs. Shelp is survived by her 4 children: Nancy (Jack) Steele of Goodrich, Ronald H. Kent, Jr. of Swartz Creek, Jane L. (John) Plashek of Owosso, Dennis E. (Rebecca) Shelp of Littleton, CO; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; brother, Bob Sargent of North Carolina and favorite friend, Phyllis Harris.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; 3 sisters and 1 brother.

at McLaren Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held 12noon Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at the American Legion Hall, 4314 W. Carpenter Road, Flint. Cremation has already taken place.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Legion in Mt. Morris Township. Visitation 11am Wednesday, February 17th at the American Legion Hall.
Helen was born in Clio, MI on December 29, 1933, the daughter of the late Irvin and Lucille (Sears) Curtis. On September 24, 1947, she married George Gawne who preceded her in death on February 11, 1994. Helen was a member of the Eagles of Vassar and American Legion in Mt. Morris Township. Helen Loved playing cards.
Surviving are companion, Don Dohrman; Children, George David and wife Karen Gawne, Vickie Gawne, Sandy Scott, and Tom Gawne; Sisters, Florence McLain, Doris (Leo) Atchison, Marian Frederick, Nancy (George) Powell, Charlotte (Willis) Daniels, Sharon (Charlie) Tusciuk, Linda (Fred) Sterns; Sister-in-law, Millie Curtis; Several grandchildren, nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 3 sisters.

Friday, February 12th, 2010DaFOE, Evelyn B. (Dorris) – Of Swartz Creek, age 80, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Avalon Hospice.
Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, February 21, 2010 at First General Baptist Church, 1102 West Hemphill Road, Flint Hemphill, Reverend William G. McMillen officiating.
Cremation has taken place. Burial will take place at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation or Avalon Hospice. Visitation 12:30 p.m. Sunday, February 21, 2010 until the time of the service at the church.
Evelyn was born in Flint, Michigan on November 7, 1929, the daughter of George and Grace (James) Dorris. She married Alfred DaFoe on July 1, 1950, who preceded her in death in April 7, 1999.
She was Past President of the Women’s Auxiliary, VFW Post #5666; member of the Swartz Creek Senior Center and a member of the Carman-Ainsworth Senior Center. She loved doing crafts and spending time with family and playing Bingo. Evelyn loved talking about her grandchildren.
Surviving are children, Kristie Lee DaFoe, June (Gary) Stefanko, Edward (Judy) DaFoe and Robert (Sandy) DeFoe; grandchildren, Wendi (Jim) Fournier, Robert (Elizabeth) Stefanko, Michael (Katie) Stefanko, Sara (David) Baldwin, Lisa DaFoe and Kristie Lynn DaFoe; great-grandchildren, Dylan Baughman, John Stefanko, Miranda Stefanko, Logan Fournier, Heather Stefanko, Jaxon Fournier and Leah Stefanko; brother, Orville Dorris; sister and brother-in-law, Gwendolyn and Jim Jones; sisters-in-law, Joanne O’Kelley and Rebecca DaFoe; loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents, George and Grace Dorris; husband, Alfred E. DaFoe and brother-in-law, James H. DaFoe.
