WERNETTE, Margaret ‘Marge’ M. – of Burton, age 86, passed away February 19, 2011 in Chaparral, New Mexico. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Friday, February 25, 2011 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. Burial, with Military Honors under the auspices of the American Legion – Davison #267 will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Wednesday and 1-3 & 5-8 PM Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Navy – Marine Corps Relief Fund or Boy Scouts of America – Tall Pine Council.
Marge was born in Flint, MI on May 5, 1924, daughter of the late Harold and Marian (Palmer) Yankle. She married Duane Harold Wernette in Flint in 1947 and he preceded her in death in 2001. Marge enjoyed sewing, cross- stitch, painting ceramics, traveling and quilt making. She worked for General Motors before retiring in 1980.
Marge is survived by her children, Craig (Deborah) Wernette, Marcia (Mike) LeGendre and Wes (Jane) Wernette; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Eva) Yankle. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Renee; brother, Robert Yankle.

VAUGHT, Marjorie Ann – Of Grand Blanc, age 89, died Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Marjorie was born in Duluth, MN on July 26, 1921. She was a member of El Said Court No. 28 Ladies Oriental Shrine. Marjorie retired from AC Spark Plug in 1980. Surviving are children, Nancy and husband Pat Paya and Pati Amburn; Grand-children, Sheri Kam, Nikki White, Kimberly Eckert, Heather Amburn, Patrick Paya and Alex Paya; Great-grandchildren, Audrey Kam, Clarissa Kam, Akasha White, Joshua Galloway, Ryan Eckert and Megan Eckert; and her dog, Tucker. She was preceded in death by husband, Martin E. Vaught in 1981.

SLOMINSKI, Mary (O’Leary) of St. Charles, Michigan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away February 19, 2011 at Covenant HealthCare. Age 77, Mary was born February 24, 1933 in Saginaw to the late George and Rachel (Cook) O’Leary. Mary graduated in 1951 from St. Mary’s Cathedral and worked at Michigan Bell. Mary married Robert Slominski on May 21, 1955 in Saginaw, he survives her. She enjoyed spending time with her family, golfing, sewing, traveling and working at their pharmacy; Bob’s Pharmacy for 20 years. Mary was a volunteer at Saginaw General Hospital for many years and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and its Alter Society.
Along with her husband, Mary is survived by children, Steve of St. Charles, Mark and Brenda of Garner, N.C., and Scott and Sandra of St. Charles. Grandchildren Carla and Tommy Spears of Clayton, N.C., Heather and Christopher Lawton of Cary, N.C., Jacob Slominski and Fiancé, Amanda Speakman of Clayton, N.C.,  and Martin Slominski of St. Charles. Also great-grandson Gavin and great-granddaughter Magdalene Spears of Clayton, N.C. Brother-in-law Gerald and wife Marie of Warren, MI; sisters-in-law, Kay O’Leary and Ann O’Leary and many loving nieces, nephews and good friends. Along with her parents, Mary was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy; brothers, Dennis, Gerald and Robert and sisters, Jean Kalmes, Ruth Pavlicek and Patricia Haremski.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in St. Charles. Fr. Todd Arnberg will preside. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery of St. Charles. The family will receive visitors at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday and from 10:00 a.m. until the service time Wednesday. Carl was born in Flint, MI on April 30, 1953, son of Carl and Betty (Slusser) Ross Sr. He married Arlene Gerding on February 5, 1977. Carl was a Pastmaster of the Davison Masonic Center #236, past director of the Shrine Security Detail, and off ice official for the Flint Generals for many years. He started in 1977 for the Flint Police Department and had disability retirement in 1980.
Carl is survived by wife, Arlene; children, Melissa (Bob) Metcalf, Carla (Randy) Meier,Carl Ross III of CA; grandchildren, John, Chelsae, Justin, Kaitlyn, Donaven, Hadlee, Aimee; brothers, Steve (Marilyn), Brad (Kathy), Brian (Bridget), Terry (Chris); several nieces and nephews. ROBERTS, Harold M. – Of Grand Blanc, age 91, died Friday, February 18, 2011 at Genesys Hospice Care Center in Goodrich. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor G. Patrick England officiating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery with a military service under the auspices of VFW Post #822 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Salvation Army or North End Soup Kitchen. Visitation 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and 12p.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Mr. Roberts was born in Maple Ridge, Michigan on February 23, 1919, the son of Benjamin and Ethel (Manning) Roberts and was a resident of Grand Blanc since 1951.

He married Helen Kramer on December 2, 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and survived the sinking of two ships, including the USS Yorktown. He was a lifetime member of Grand Blanc American Legion Post. Mr. Roberts was employed by Consumers Power Company for 32 years, retiring in 1976. Surviving are wife, Helen; six children, David and wife Wanda, Richard and wife Patti, Ronald and wife Sharon, Mary Roberts and husband Ronald McCoy, Janice Roberts, Brian and wife Janice; seven grandchildren, Brent, Jeremey, Lindsey and Max Roberts, Jason and Bris Roberts, Tracie and Fernando Fernandez, Brandi and Chris Hall and four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Ethel; brothers, Dean and Bob Roberts.

POST, Roy Erick 89 of Midland, passed away February 4, 2011 surrounded by his family. He was born November 28, 1921 in St. Cloud, MN, son of Erick and Jarda (Larson) Post. Roy grew up in Idaho, Montana, and Minnesota before serving in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He returned to Minnesota where he obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and married Betty Marie Golden in Hopkins on March 11, 1950. He and Betty were happily married until her death on July 10, 2004.
For Roy and Betty, dancing was a way of life. He was employed as a chemical engineer by Mallinckrodt Chemical Co. in St. Louis, MO from 1950 to 1952. He left there to work for the Foxboro Co., first in Columbus, OH, then St. Louis and finally, Midland where he retired in 1987. He was a member of American Legion Post 165 and the Midland Elks 1610. He is survived by his children: Mark (Lynn) Post of Wheaton IL; Carla (Richard) Eaton of New Orleans LA; and Jim (Kim) Post of Plymouth MN; grandchildren Susie (Robert) Battey, Janet Post, and Kristin Post; great grandchildren Maria, Charlie, and Gemma Battey; his brother Ralph (Mary) Post of Hopkins MN; sister Ruth (Ole) Orrestad of Spokane WA, sisters-in-law June (Karl) Dosen of Minneapolis MN, and Mary Post of St. John’s, NL, wife of his late brother Robert “Bob” Post.
A memorial service for Roy will take place at 2:30 PM on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler Street in Midland, followed by a wake at the American Legion Post 165 from about 3:00 to 6:00 PM. Cleda was born February 3, 1928 in Flint to the late Arlie and Beatrice (Creamer) Edwards and resided in Clio most of her life. She married Edwin Norton on September 17, 1949. He preceded her in death on February 16, 2010. Cleda had been employed at Bell Telephone, was a volunteer for C-M Ambulance and worked at Thetford Township elections. Cleda was a member of the Clio VFW Post #1452 Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed bowling, crocheting, gardening, Skip-Bo and watching the Hallmark channel. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Surviving are: 4 children, Debra Young, Randy Norton, Kathy Childers, all of Clio; Ellen (Jim) Cokley of Davison; 6 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; her dog, Jasmine; sisters, Carol (Rudy) Saeger, Donna (Bob) Ames all of Millington; several nieces and nephews. Dale was born January 11, 1947 in Flint the son of the late Leroy and Violet (Klinger) Neil. He was a 1965 graduate of Fenton High School. Dale married Marilyn Pass in Fenton on December 6, 1980. He was employed for 40 years by Consumer Energy in quality control until his retirement in 2006. In addition, Dale was a member of Utility Workers Union, Local #119, Burton. He was a collector of many things, jukeboxes, vinyl records and miniature classic cars. He played and coached softball, was a great sports fan, especially Red Wings Hockey and Tiger Baseball. Dale will be remembered as a great negotiator for family and friends. He was a helpful man who loved a good challenge. Dale will be missed dearly, and remembered forever. Jack was born in Groesbeck, TX on January 24, 1931, son of the late Jesse and Winnie (Marshall) Lloyd. He married Martha Slawter on November 12, 1983 in Flint. Jack proudly served his country for 4 years in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for Fisher Body Plant 1 in Flint and retired in 1986. He spent his retirement in Lakes of the North in Elmira, MI. Jack was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #695 in Flint and the American Legion. He was also an avid sportsman.
Jack is survived by wife, Martha; sons, Robert (Annette) Lloyd of Clio, John (Kandi) Lloyd of Linden, Jim Lloyd of Flint; daughters, Katherine Montgomery of Mt. KERN, Thelma 65 of Reese, died Wednesday evening, February 16, 2011 at Covenant HealthCare Cooper Campus in Saginaw. She was born April 8, 1945 in Southampton, England and was raised by her adoptive parents, George and Margaret E. Burwood. On July 2, 1966 she was married to Allan Kern in Reese. He survived her. Thelma attended the Peace Lutheran Church in Saginaw and was member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese where she was an active member of the Mary Martha Guild. Her most important activity was being Nana to her three grandsons. She volunteered countless hours over the past twenty years at Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw and enjoyed gardening. Surviving besides her husband Allan are her two sons and their spouses, Colin and Carol Kern of Saginaw and Justin and Leslie Kern of Birch Run; her three grandsons, Lucas, Lance and Ian Kern, her aunt, Mary Roberts and her husband Tony and her cousins, Jeremy Roberts and his wife Hazel and Dorcas Roberts, all of England.

~Funeral~ Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2011 from the Peace Lutheran Church, 3427 Adams in Saginaw. Rev. Paul Hinz will officiate with graveside committal services to take place at 2:30 p.m. in the Denmark Township Cemetery in Reese.

ITTNER, Leon (Jim) Jr. – 84

ITTNER, Leon (Jim) Jr. of St. Charles passed away February 18, 2011 at the age of 84. He was born in Saginaw, Michigan March 1, 1926 to the late Leon Sr. and Hannah Ittner. Jim married the former Colleen Robishaw July 28, 1962 and she survives him.
He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saginaw. After graduating from Saginaw High School he enlisted in the Army Air Corp. Upon discharge from the service he became a co-partner with his father in the hardware business until 1975, the last ten years as owner-manager. Jim was also a dedicated volunteer firefighter with the Bridgeport Fire Dept. for 41 years, the last eleven as the first full time chief.
During the 1950’s he was a well known stockcar driver. He loved hunting in the U.P.and dirt biking with his son and grandson in the Rose City area. Many summer vacations were spent with the entire family in northern Michigan.
Along with his wife, he leaves behind to mourn his passing his much loved family. His three children, Michael (June) Robishaw of St. Charles, Susan Feinberg of North Carolina and Nancy Sweet of St. Charles; six grandchildren, Michael J. Robishaw, Melissa (Bryan) Yuvan, Sara (Chris) Kelly, Aaron (Kim) Kilts, Erik (Holly) Sweet and Rebecca Sweet; eight great-grandchildren who he loved and enjoyed so much, Grace Noel and Brady Robishaw, Liza and Winn Kelly, Kaitlin and Claire Kilts and Jude and Gray Sweet, who much loved him in return. He is also survived by three brothers, Richard Ittner of Georgia, Robert (Marva) Ittner of Marquette and Ronald (Shirley) Ittner of Frankenmuth. Along with his parents Jim is predeceased by one never forgotten infant grandson, Matthew Philip Robishaw; 2 brothers, Wilbur Don Ittner and Delbert (Jack) Ittner; and two sister-in-laws, Jeannine Ittner and DeLores Ittner.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, 1123 W. Walnut, St. Charles. Pastor Jason Baldwin will officiate. Burial will be at Brant Twp. Cemetery. Friends may call at C.M. Humpula Funeral Home, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles, on Monday from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a sharing time held at 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the service time. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Mary Ann Paschal on November 8,1951 in TN; she preceded him in death June 3, 2006. He retired from GM in 1983 with 31 years of service. BESTER, Mrs. Jennet A. of the Vassar and Millington area’s passed away Saturday February 19, 2011 at her residence with her family at her side, Jennet was 75. Jennet A. McCormick the daughter of the late Lewis & Bernice (Thomas) McCormick was born in Detroit Michigan on May 12, 1935. Jennet leaves to cherish her memory her four children: Joyce Withers, Rob & wife Karen Withers, Kim & husband Dan Moncman, Tammy Harris, step children: Kim & Jr. Moody, and Vanda Bester, 42 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, one sister Cheris Grinnell, three brothers: Darwin, Richard, and William McCormick, as well as several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends. Jennet is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Bester, three sons, two step-sons, and a step-daughter.
