STILES, Harvey – Of Swartz Creek, age 83, died Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at The Pines of Swartz Creek. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 20, 2010 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Chaplain Goodman Cox officiating. Friends may meet with the family from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Harvey was born in Flint, Michigan on September 29, 1926, the son of Clinton and Mabel (Kerry) Stiles. Harvey proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Harvey married Beverly Inscho on January 17, 1948 in Flint and they had celebrated 60 years of marriage. He was a member of the Burton Eagles. Mr. Stiles was employed by General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1977. Surviving are daughters, Nancy and husband Matthew Heidtman, Susan and husband Richard Pace; granddaughters, Melissa and husband Michael Graves,
Carrie and husband Jason Mandel; great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Carter Mandel and Evan Graves; brother-in-law, Nels and wife Nancy Anderson; sister-in-law, Lorraine Boegner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, on February 1, 2008.

Phyllis was born August 7, 1930 in Detroit, the daughter of Jesse and Ruth (Prindle) Dowell. She had resided in Swartz Creek since 1946 and was a 1947 graduate of Mary Crapo. Phyllis married Donald Spillane on May 19, 1951. She was a charter member of Swartz Creek Kiwanis Auxiliary, co-founder and member of Swartz Creek Area AlAnon, member of Flint Banjo Club Auxiliary and a descendant of the Redford Pioneers. Surviving are: three sons, Thomas Spillane and wife, Pam, Michael Spillane and wife, Lyla, David Spillane and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Benjamin, Jeremy, Scott, Mitchell, Megan, Ryan and Kaitlyn; great-grandchildren, Gracie and Riley; sister, Nanette and husband, Donald Binns; many nieces and nephews. Those desiring may make contribution to an Eastern Star Charities. Fran was born July 16, 1939 in Jackson, MS, the daughter of J.F. and Virginia (Dukes) Holbrook. She graduated from the University of Michigan School of Medical Technology and was employed by Hurley Medical Center as a Medical Tech. for 32 years. Fran was past Matron of the Eastern Stars Fenton Chapter #248 serving as Matron 12 times. She was the Star of the year and current President of Genesee County Association. Her motto was Angels among us. She also belonged to the White Shine of Jersulem, served on the board of Rainbows and past representative of Prince Edward Island Nova Scotia. Fran married Carlton Richmond April 10, 1999. Surviving are: husband, Carlton; sister-in-law, Virginia and husband Melvin Townsend; dear life friends, Marilyn and Jim Brumback, Janine Matheson, Amy Abbey and Christopher and Robin George; special neighbors, Dan and Jan Rust. LANGDON, Rose – of Flint, age 93, passed away September 16, 2010 at home. A Funeral Service will be 12 NOON Monday, September 20, 2010 at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 6100 Richfield Rd., Flint; Rev. Harold K. Polk Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 pm Sunday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. On Monday, there will be visitation at the church for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Calvary Presbyterian Church or the East Side Senior Center.

Rose was the second of six children born to Anna and Joseph Bachan. Her parents met in New York after emigrating from Bohemia; married and settled in Chicago. After a few years, the family moved to Foster, Michigan, and as a little girl, Rose grew up helping the family toil as migrant farm workers, finally owning a home of their own. In 1932, the family moved back to Chicago. Rose met her future husband, Henry, while visiting her older sister Anna and her husband, Phillip, in Flint. It was a double date that led to marriage in 1941; a marriage that lasted for 63 years until Henrys’ passing in 2004. Rose and Henry were long time members of Calvary Presbyterian Church where they spent many hours as volunteers making pasties and helping with the church bulletins. They were among the founding members of the Eastside Senior Citizens Center, where they enjoyed the company of many good friends over the years, along with frequent bus tours across the USA. Both served as members of the Board of Directors for the East Side Seniors’ organization. In later years, Rose enjoyed tending her flowers, feeding her birds, playing Bingo at the Center, baking her muffins, evening card games and spending time with family and friends.

Rose is survived by her children, David (Deloryes) Langdon and Kenneth (Ruth) Langdon; grandchildren, Rob (Julia) Langdon, Bill Langdon and Jason (Amy) Langdon; great-grandchildren, Danielle, Bailey, Olivia, Jacob and Natali; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Brian Langdon; siblings, Anna Raymond, Mary Bachan, Lillian Daniel and Joseph Bachan Jr. The family wishes to give their deepest appreciation to all who cared for Rose in her later years including Drs. Jota and Aquino, Genesys Hospice, Carolyn Scott and especially Caroline Finley, who provided evening home care for Rose (who enjoyed her card games) for the last six years since Henrys’ passing.

Burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Grand Blanc, MI. Visitation 5-8 p.m. Saturday and 1-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Pam was born in Flint, MI on May 26, 1958, the daughter of Arman E. “Gene” and Madonna J. (Anderson) McManama. Pam was a 1976 Carman High School Honors graduate, Flint. Pam was a B.A. graduate of U of M- Flint, completing a double major in Political Science and Public Administration in December of 1980. She was also a graduate of the University of Detroit-Mercy completing a Masters Degree in Business Administration in December, 1984. Pam married Jeffrey William Joyner at the First Presbyterian Church in Flint, MI, on January 10, 1987. Pam hired into General Motors Warehouse and Distribution Division on January 1, 1985, retiring from General Motors Service Parts Operations in November , 2009, with 24 years of service. Within General Motors, she worked in a variety of capacities, including General Supervisor-Material Control within the Corporate Alliance Group, Product Specialist within Product Program Development, retiring as Competitive Information Manager. She enjoyed scrapbooking, facebook, photography, being surrounded by family and friends, staying healthy and sailing. Surviving are husband of 23 years, Jeff Joyner; children, Ashley (19), Matthew (17), Selena (15) and Lauren (9), all of Grand Blanc; brother, Allyn McManama of Flint Township; mother, Madonna McManama of Flint Township. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Jordan Joyner, in August 1998, as well as father, Arman E. “Gene” McManama, in April, 2005. Clova was born June 7, 1908 in Shiawassee County to the late Charles and Nora (Stafford) Watson and resided in Clio since 1940. She married Fayne Hodgman on June 11, 1927. He preceded her in death on January 29, 2002. She attended West Vienna United Methodist Church and was a lifetime member of Clio Chapter #283 Order of Eastern Star and a member of Genesee Chapter of Daughters of American Revolution.
Surviving are: 4 children, Francis “Buck” Hodgman of Clio, Nancy (Ronald) Cousineau of Clio, Ellen (Oliver) Arthur of Clio and Clara (Dale) Berry of Atlanta, MI; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Joseph G. Steenland, Jr., age 75, of Roseville, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2010 in Mount Clemens. Mr. Steenland honorably served the community as a Roseville police officer for 33 years, achieving the rank of lieutenant; afterwards, he held the position of chief investigator for the Macomb Co. Prosecutor’s Office until he retired 13 years later. Mr. Steenland has been a member of the Roseville School Board for 34 years and has been the president since 1981. Joe further served the community as a member of the Roseville Scholarship Foundation, Friends of the Roseville Public Library, the Roseville Historical & Genealogical Society. He was also past president and a founding member of the Roseville Optimist Club. One of Joe’s proudest moments was having a school dedicated in his name in 2008, Joseph G. Steenland Elementary School, commonly known as “The Joe.” Mr. Steenland is survived by his children, Debra (Michael) Seabolt, Joseph (Tammy) Steenland, III, Mark (Jeanise) Steenland, Jon (Anna) Steenland, Richard (Catherine) Steenland, Michael (Karen) Steenland and Jennifer (Kevin) Miller; 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Kronner. Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife, Darlene. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Monday at Kaul Funeral Home, 27830 Gratiot Avenue, Roseville. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Dr. John L. Musgrave officiating. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery. Visitation 2-8 p.m. Monday and 11 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Phyllis was born in Poughkeepsie, New York on February 9, 1938, the daughter of the late Cornelius and Christiana (Fries) Mallory. On July 8, 1961 she married John in Poughkeepsie, New York. Mrs. Jones spent her life as a dedicated school teacher. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Surviving are husband, John; children, Chris Jones, Stephen and wife Sandra Jones; grandchildren, Piper and Molly Jones.

Mrs. Arlene M. Preston of Millington passed away early Saturday morning July 10, 2010 while at the Covenant Health Care Center Cooper Campus in Saginaw Michigan, Arlene was 69.

Arlene M. Volarich was born January 31, 1941 in Van Cover British Columbia Canada and was the daughter of the late Mate & Lily (Strand) Volarich. On June 10th, 1970 Arlene married Mr. Lee Preston and together she and Lee have celebrated 40 years of marriage. Arlene retired after 25 years of services with the US-Postal Service Vassar Post Office as a rural mail carrier. Prior to the postal service Arlene drove school bus for 13 years with the Millington Public School system. Arlen loved dogs, and was an avid participant in raising and showing pedigree German Sheppard’s and was a past member of the Flint German Sheppard Club.

Arlene leaves to cherish her memory husband Lee, three children, James, Larry, and Sandy White, two grandchildren, Craig White, and Ethan Speila. She leaves also a sister Deb, several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. Besides her parents Arlene is preceded in death by a granddaughter Laura White, and her father and mother in-law, Kenneth & Nellie Preston.

BROW, Gary L. of Millington passed away suddenly late Sunday afternoon July 4, 2010 at the Saginaw St. Mary’s Medical Center in Saginaw Mi, Gary was 68.

Gary L. Brow the son of the late Leo & Evelyn (Schaale) Brow was born in Flint Michigan on November 6, 1941. Gary has been a Millington resident most of his life. On Nov. 16, 1963 Gary married his wife of 46 years Miss Sandra Rodden. Gary retired in 2000 from the Buick Motor Division of General Motors after 37 years of employment.

Gary leaves his wife Sandra, children, Wendy Brow, Janine & husband Fred Mc Mahan, and Danion Brow, five grandchildren, Kyle & Mikayla Brow, Alice, Lily, and Annabelle Mc Mahan. He leaves also his brothers & sisters, Leroy Brow, Annette Priest, Phillip Brow, La Vern Brow, and Lynn Goyette, as well as several nieces, nephews and other extended family. Besides his parents Gary is also preceded in death by a son Gary Leroy Brow.

Benner, Jerome Francis (Romie) age 57 of Las Vegas, Nevada, formally of Clio, Michigan.
Born November 2, 1952 in Flint, Michigan. Son of Roy and Lola (Duke) Benner. Romie went home to be with the Lord June 18, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. In 1979 Romie entered the United States Army serving his country proudly for 11 years. Romie then became a member of the Operating Engineer Local of Flint for many years. Romie passed away in the loving arms of his sister’s Penny & Sherrie. Cremation has taken place in Las Vegas, Nevada. On Friday, June 25th @ 1:00 Romie will receive a Full Military Honors. Officiating Pastor Larry Nelson, at Bray Road Baptist Church, 9505 North Bray Road, Clio Michigan. He leaves to cherish his sweet and loving memories: Mother and stepfather, Lola & Ed Tackabury of Birch Run, Michigan.

Kenneth R. (Ken) Mercer of Mayville passed away early Monday morning June 21, 2010 while at the Lutheran Home of Frankenmuth, Ken was 83.

Kenneth R. Mercer was born in Flint Michigan on March 23, 1928 and was the son of the late Leonard & Agnes (Sindilier) Mercer. After Ken graduated high school he served our country during the Korean War in the US-Army. Ken married Miss Beverly Blake July 1, 1950 and together Ken and Beverly celebrated nearly 59 years together before her passing on the 31st of May 2009. Ken retired from the General Motors Corp from the Turn stead-Coldwater Road Plant after 39 years of employment.

Ken leaves his children, Ron & Jamie Mercer, Michael & Patricia Mercer, Ruthann & Jimmie Locklear, Keith & Melissa Mercer, Robert & Lynette Mercer, and Maryann Mercer, several grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. Ken leaves also, three brothers and two sisters’ in-law, Don & Pat Mercer, Clare & Donna Mercer, and Tim Mercer, a sister Lois Weinzierl and, several nieces, nephews, and other extended family. Besides his wife and parents Ken is also preceded in death by three sons John, Steven, and Kenneth Mercer Jr. a brother Leroy, and a sister Marion.

Lifelong Millington resident passed from our world into God’s Kingdom early Saturday morning June 12, 2010 with his family at his side while at the St. Mary’s Medical Center in Saginaw MI, Bob was 67.

Robert Earl Beagle the son of the late Earl and Dorothy (Long) Beagle and was born in Flint MI on November 12, 1942. Bob grew up in Millington where he graduated from Millington High School.  On April 24, 1965 Bob married Miss Nancy Christensen together she and Bob have celebrated 45 years of marriage. Bob retired in 1997 with 36 years of service with General Motors; Fisher Guide Coldwater Road Plant.

Bob leaves to cherish his memory wife Nancy; son & daughter in-law Jason & Nanette Beagle, and daughter Tracy Beagle. He leaves also a sister & brother in-law Sue & Roger Bush, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other extended family and many, many friends.

 The family will receive friends at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington on Tuesday from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday June 16, 2010 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millington. The burial will follow at the Millington Twp. Cemetery. PHILLIPSON, William Neil (Bill) passed away at his Millington residence on Sunday May 2, 2010 after a long battle with cancer, Bill was 44. Bill leaves his wife Laurie, his children and many other family, extended family, and friends to cherish his many, many wonderful memories.

Bill’s wife Laurie has honored Bill’s request and cremation has taken place. Bill was very proud that he served four years with the United States Marine Corp. that the family will honor him with Military Honors at the new Millington Veterans Memorial at the Veterans Memorial Park at the Millington Twp. Cemetery on Sunday June 13, 2010 at 1:00 pm. Military Honors will be conducted by the Conrad-Wager & Keene American Legion Post #164 of Millington and also by United States Marines Corp Honor Guard.

Foley, Gertrude Lucile (Forsyth) a life time Millington resident passed from our world into God’s Kingdom early Sunday morning June 6, 2010 at her residence, Gertrude was 89.

Gertrude Lucile Forsyth was the daughter of Henry O. & Minnie (Mamerow) Forsyth and was born on August 4, 1920.  Gertrude has been a lifelong Millington resident growing up in Millington and graduating from Millington High School. On March 31, 1940 Gertrude married her husband of 63 years John Dennis Foley, John precedes her in death in July of 2003. Gertrude loved to sew, do needle point, and work in her flower gardens. In addition to raising 9 children she worked hard along side of her husband John in the daily operation of Foley’s Dairy Farm.  Gertrude’s real joy was family raising the children, helping with grandchildren and just spending time with family.

Gertrude leaves to cherish her memory, children, John Foley, Sharon & John Stephens,  Shirley & Wayne Graham, Sondra Foley, Nancy & Russ Bullen, Joel & Ronnie Foley, Michael Foley, Vernon Foley, and Steve & Diane Foley, ten grandchildren,  nine great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She leaves also two sisters, Albertine & Alfred Burns, and Elinor & Charles Kroll,  a brother Jim Forsyth,  sister in-law Ethel Foley,  several nieces, nephews, and extended family. POTOCZNY, Joseph Anthony of Davison age 91 died Wednesday May 12, 2010 at his residence. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday May 18, 2010 at the Hansen Funeral Home Groves Chapel, Downtown Davison. Deacon Mike Dear officiating. Burial in St. John Cemetery. Family will recieve visitors from 4:00 until 8;00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Joseph was born in San Antonio, Texas August 1, 1918 the son of Henry and Mary Potoczny and has resided in Davison the last eight years, spending most of his life in the Flint area. Answering the call of his country Jospeh served in the US Army during World War II. He had been employed by General Motors until his retirement in the 1970’s. He is survived by his children, and nieces; Dorothy, Marie, Junie, Barbara, and Gloria. He is preceded in death wife Jean.

ROSEBUSH, Phyllis Deanne – Age 78, of Byron, formerly of South Lyon, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at her residence. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 9:30 AM Saturday, May 15, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 715 N. Lapeer Rd., Lake Orion. Burial will follow in Square Lake Cemetery. HOWELL, Gerald L. – of Flint, age 76, passed away May 12, 2010 at his residence. A Funeral Service will be held 2 PM Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Pastor Len Lason officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 12-4 & 6-8 PM Friday and 11 AM- 2 PM Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carriage Town Ministries.
Gerald was born in Davison, MI on August 11, 1933, son of the late Maurice and Arlene (Blackmore) Howell. Gerald L. Howell married Doris Thorne on February 9, 1952. He especially enjoyed his family, being in the U.P., hunting, fishing, chopping wood, scrabble, card playing and sports. He was also the 1952 Golden Glove Boxing Champion of Flint and enjoyed playing hockey. Gerald retired as Chief of plant security at GM SPO in Swartz Creek, MI in 1986 after 29 ½ years of service.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Doris; children, Deborah Snow, Laura (Jeffrey) Hurst, Christine (Robert) Manchester, Gerald Jr. (Lisa) Howell, David (Wendy) Howell and Michael Howell; grandchildren, David, Aaron, Megan, Ryan, Robby, Katie, Sara, Mandy, James, Courtney, Stephanie and Kori; 17 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Howell and grandson, Ryan Hurst. He will be deeply missed by all. His philosophy of life was, “Enjoy the moment you’re in and do the best you can while you’re here”. The family would like to give a special thank you to all who were involved in his care.

GOODFELLOW, William E. Sr. “Bill” – Formerly of Flint and Davison age 92, died Thursday, May 13, 2010 in Clare, after having Alzheimer’s for the last several years. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the Swartz Funeral Home, Pastor Chris Radcliffe officiating. Friends can meet family one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sear’s Food Pantry. Mr. Goodfellow was born in New York state after his parents immigrated from England. He married Marion Hildebrand in 1963 and she preceded him in death in 2003. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a general handyman who enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. Mr. Goodfellow was employed by Wickes Lumber for 18 years. He then was employed by General Motors for 10 years, retiring in 1983. Surviving are three children, Gary (Pat) of Sears, Judith (Lowry) Brown of Fenton and Bill of Davison;
step-children, Patti Lynne (Duane) Ward of Ohio, Joseph, Jr. and (Virginia) Hildebrand of Flint; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his brother, John, and former wife, Theda.
